You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in you. – Isaiah 26:3
Have you ever noticed how God sends you love notes? I received this verse today in a church-wide e-mail from my pastor today, giving encouragement during a time when our church really needs it. I found the timing especially poignant after the day of prayer and fasting the 1Peter3Living participated in yesterday. God moved in mighty ways among us, touched hearts and restored hope as we prayed for our spouses and each other.
Later that evening (after the fast had ended), my oldest daughter surprised me by pulling out old family videos. The first one she watched was my wedding. I don’t think I’ve looked at that video for a good fifteen years. We marveled at how young her dad and I looked, (way young, good grief!) and much the styles have changed in 20 years. Hey, it was the eighties!
Then my sweet hubby came home and joined us. At that point the pastor was giving us our vows and praying, a lot. I honestly didn’t remember the ceremony being so steeped in prayer and verse. I wondered what my husband was thinking to watch himself as a very young man, bow his head in prayer and recite the Lord’s prayer. Needless to say, I watched myself as a young woman do the very same thing, and I realized how little I knew God at that time.
One part struck me especially. The pastor spoke of marriage as a covenant, and that ours would be blessed if we lived in obedience to God. How I could appreciate these words, because I know them to be true. God has blessed my marriage and honored my obedience to him, my commitment to my marriage, and my determination to honor my husband.
But I know more is coming and that my marriage will become a true image of what God intended. Watching that video was like God saying, “See, I’ve been there all along. Just wait and see what I do next.”
I don’t think it was an accident that my daughter chose this particular day to pull that video out. I believe God sent me a very special love note. A reminder of what only He can do as I trust in him.
Praying and believing,
Dineen
