Cheryl sent it to me. She said, “There was a feather on my bedroom floor!!! It was small (I thought a leaf or something else)  It is blue without a blemish and in my bedroom !!!!”  ~She is saving it in her Bible. 

Another reader described rain …. INSIDE. I have to say that I have heard others experiencing this as well. In fact, a few months back, I was in church during worship and felt a single water drop kiss my face, falling on my right cheek. In my blonde brainedness, I stopped singing and looked around for the idiot with the squirt gun in church…. Geeeze…. Wish I had grasped what was happening then. 

Oh my friends, I think God has been delighting me and sending His tiny gifts of love in very tangible ways for years. I just didn’t know how to see Him or hear Him. But, no longer. I am opening up my heart and pleading for His anointing. I will bring my entire life into complete obedience to just experience the presence of our Holy King. I am willing to surrender my body, which remains my last really big stronghold. I offer my service, my money, my possessions, my dignity pleading for my Lord to only increase in my life. 

For months now I’ve been hearing God to help you to learn to experience His presence. And more than anything I want you to know you can. You can feel the rain on your face and receive gifts of love and find yourself shaking from the sheer experience of God’s love washing over you. 

There is a cost however. 

Our Lord is not cheap. He will demand much but what He gives in return I’ve decided far outweighs any petty little thing this earth could offer me. 

So today I want to begin to tell you about my story of worship. As I share this story, I ask you to pray about it. Ask God if He is calling you into some of these practices? If you feel a deep conviction, follow through. If you feel a hunger to experience feathers and rain, follow through. If you KNOW you have a sin in your life that God has asked you to repent, follow through. 

As I said at the beginning of this series, at the end of this summer you could be in an entirely different place in your life with Jesus. 

I worship in several different ways. So today, I’m going to share with you what I share often and every time I speak to a live audience. It’s my Daily Bible. This is only one aspect of my worship and I will share more in the days ahead.

Over 13 years ago my mother purchased a Daily Bible for me. This Bible is organized by date with a portion of the Old Testament, New Testament, Psalm and Proverb to be read each day. I made a commitment to rise early to read this Bible every day. And 13 years ago I was working full-time and raising a family so I would rise as early as 5 a.m. to keep this appointment. And it changed my life. Finally the lies of the enemy were silenced and truth filled my thoughts and ruled in my life. 

I will pray about what I’m reading, asking God to show me, teach me. I will tell Him that I don’t understand certain passages and ask for clarity. I will discover a passage that so astonishes me I whisper, Whoa, God. That Rocked! God likes it when I tell Him He rocks *grin.* 

Still today, I sit with this Bible every morning. It’s my first priority. Every year I read through it, God brings different passages alive to me. I write notes in the margin about my experiences in life. And about events in the lives of my family and friends. There are many notes about trips, opening nights of my daughter’s plays, notes about finding feathers and such. These are the monuments in my life with Christ. 

I love reading my notes a year later or five years later and celebrating the miracles in my life all over again. I worship Him for His faithfulness to this ordinary woman. 

This Bible is my most treasured earthly possession. In fact, my daughter has asked for it as part of her inheritance. 

So I ask you? Do you have a daily appointment with the King? Where do you read? Do you read anything in addition to your Bible? If you don’t, can you be courageous enough to declare that you don’t in the comments and then commit to starting. I want all of us to pray for you by name in the comments. 

Monday, I will share with you what I do immediately following my Bible reading. And it may seem that these next few posts are boring or inconsequential but I promise you that there are many who need some examples of how to get started on this amazing love relationship with Jesus. 

Earlier I said that God is not cheap or easily obtained. A commitment to spend 30 minutes every day with Him may seem impossible in your current schedule, but are you willing to sacrifice intimacy and answers to your prayers for 30 minutes of television, reading or some other insignificant task? 

Tough questions I know but they truly demand an answer. Oh my friends, these posts are going to wreck your life.

    First of all…. awesome picture of the two of you! I can’t wait to hear how it went!
    I enjoy hearing about your worship experiences as well and yes I would love to experience a mist or rain or even a feather. Nobody would believe it and that would be awesome!
    Now, honestly, I do try to spend some time with God in the morning. Do I get up earlier than normal to do this, no. I cannot seem to drag my butt out of bed these days and I go to bed earlier and earlier. Do I spend 20-30 minutes with Him. Unfortunately, no. It’s more like 5 minutes in the morning and hopefully some more time at work. I struggle with deep prayer and studying the word. I know that God has been speaking to me that I need to do this, but it’s probably one of my biggest struggles at this point. I think that I am lazy and have issues focusing. Yes I want to give Jesus my all, but I think I need a kick in the butt to get me motivated.
    I cannot wait to learn and hear more and grow in Christ. Lord knows I need to.

    I discovered the Daily Bible in Chronological Order with notes by F. LaGard Smith and it totally changed my bible experience. The bible became alive in a way I had never seen in the 30 years of my Christian walk. Everyone got one for Christmas that year, graduation gifts and birthday gifts. It is by far my favourite through the bible in a year bible.

    I would like to suggest to those who are “too busy” to read the Bible or devotions to put this material in your washroom! If you want to get started and can’t sit still long enough?…as dishonoring as this sounds it WORKS! It at least will get you going one step at a time until you desire and crave to read more and God WANTS you closer no matter HOW you do it! TRUST ME! 😉

    Getting up early to spend time with the Lord has been something I have wanted to do for far to long :/ Like Heather I just can’t seem to get myself up, so I really do appreciate your prayers. Once I am up I do spend time with the Lord but it is different everyday..somedays longer than others and when in a bible study much longer. I know it is time for me to commit to that daily special time with the Lord.

    Love the picture of both of you at the top of this blog. I too committed to spending that time first thing in the morning many years ago. I set my alarm for 4:50 and get up and feed my little doggies and go back to my room to spend time reading the Word and talking to my Lord and Savior. I too have a daily Bible and sounds like the same one you have. I have the hard copy, but also just bought the Kindle one to download. It’s amazing to me how God speaks into my specific situation. Sometimes I reflect back when I read in my journal from these times in my devotions and am amazed at the changes in my life and heart, and also things that I have prayed for and how God has worked it out. God’s Word is so powerful! That first hour in the morning for me is a time that I treasure. Without that time with Him where would I be? It’s so easy to start thinking like the world, talking like the world etc, but when we committ to spending that time with God we get refocused each and every day.

    Oh and I also have devotionals too. One of them is on my iphone called Daily Bible Devotion. I love it because there is a morning and and evening one and I can share it on Facebook. I won’t go into how many devotionals I have, but I have several in my Kindle besides hard copies. I LOVE reading though and won’t even go into how many books are on my Kindle. My husband got me a Kindle because we were running out of bookcase space. lol I have even started loaning the books I have on my Kindle.

    I do have a daily appointment! It’s first thing in the morning for me, too. I pray for 1/2 hour each morning before I eat breakfast, while everyone else is still asleep and the house is quiet. 30 minutes might seem like a long time, but if you write out a list of things and people who need prayer, I find the time flies by so fast I need even more than 30 minutes to fit it all in. I also have a Bible reading plan that gets me through the OT once, NT twice, Psalms twice and Proverbs 12 times through in one year. It takes me about 40 minutes a day and so I don’t usually do all that reading in the morning. I’ll read some on my lunch and, if needed, I’ll finish up after dinner while everyone else is watching TV. The days I keep these appointments are the days I feel the most peace. I rarely miss a day anymore, but when I do, I feel discontent and restlessness.
    RE getting up early: Coffee helps. I look forward to my coffee and that helps get me out of bed. Also, I used to be a die hard night owl, and I HATED the mornings…until I began doing this. Only the first few days were hard. I can in all honesty tell you that this has changed how I feel in the AM. The praying engergizes me and I am not exaggerating. 🙂
    For the Word of God is living and active, sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Hebrews 4:12

    I remember when I first tried getting up at 5 a.m. to start reading my Bible and spending time with God. It was unbelievably hard and I would fall asleep many times until my body became accustomed to rising early in the morning. Now I am an early riser, but almost nonfunctioning at night. lol About 8 p.m. I am winding down. It’s absolutely worth it and a wonderful way to start your day!

    One more thing: some of the old theologians are amazing. Anyone who wishes to draw closer to God should read A.W. Tozer, specifically “The Pursuit of God.” Oh my word. That book is hands down the best I’ve ever read (outside the Bible of course), in terms of seeking God with your whole heart, soul, mind and heart. And it’s over 50 years old. It’s totally a classic. Some of Tozer’s other stuff is really good too. Just FYI: I think you can get “The Pursuit of God” free for you Kindle through Amazon. But even if you can’t anymore, it’s worth whatever they are asking for it.

    you know, it’s changed for me over the years… when God first called me to full submission, it was daily, for hours a day until I felt Him release me into my day… now (and just recently), my time with Him is when I exercise… and He has been calling me to rise early, put on earphones and pray or listen as I work out… it’s an amazing time of intimacy and communion… I have to admit thought tha I need to carve out more time for reading… that can easily get lost in the fullness of life right now,but i do find myself during the day with verses that rest on my heart and I end up spending lunch with that verse or taking a quick bathroom break (for real) with my phone and biblegateway…

    This is my second year going through the Bible in a year. The sad thing is that it took me about 18 years to do that. Why, I do not have an answer but know that it’s all about God’s timing and I am just amazed at the truth I heard all those years and am marveled at the new mysteries God is revealing. I try to get up early, which is most mornings, and spend my time with my Lord. I have to admit the past couple weeks I have fallen behind with summer, kids getting ready for college and back to school, and I would appreciate your prayers for getting back on track. I am so going to get the Daily Devotional Bible. In fact, we were at the Christian Bookstore yesterday and my daughter was asking for one, how about that for coincidence? I don’t think so! And Lynn, as for the doves…I’ve been noticing them more since reading your post and praise the Lord every time I see one. Committed to praying for each one of you. Thank you for your ministry. Love you ladies!

    I am really trying for the 30 minutes in the morning to read my Bible and pray. Most days I do it – other days when I have to be on the road by 6 or 7am, it doesn’t happen. However, I have the Bible on my iphone and can access it anytime of day. I am working on a pre-set plan where I read some OT, NT, and Psalms a little each day. The app has a lot of different plans to choose from. I travel a lot so the Bible app is perfect – I can read the Bible anywhere, anytime. All day when I’m driving I listen to Focus on the Family, K-love, etc. it all depends on the radio signal of where I’m at. I get CD’s to listen to from www.paperbackswap.com – I have the Purpose Driven Life, Heaven is for real….and I’ve swaped for others on the site as well. I have all day in the car so I have time to talk with God, listen to him, but it doens’t always work out that way. When I’m driving I’m also returning work phone calls, taking work phone calls, taking co-worker calls, etc. I need to spend some more taking God phone calls 🙂
    I was at the beach last Saturday through Wednesday and each morning got up early, went down to the beach to read my Bible and pray. What a great way to start the day 🙂 The last day I was reading and the sky got dark and I heard thunder. I thought about leaving and I noticed the sun reflecting off the ocean a ways off shore. The sun slowly crept up toward shore almost directly over me. It was the only bright spot on the beach – everywhere else was dark. I finished my reading, sang along to “10,000 reasons” on my iphone, and the sun went behind the clouds. I took THAT as my que to leave 🙂 I noticed a feather on the beach on my way into the water with my husband when I really didn’t want to go….feather’s on the beach are pretty common – maybe it was for me – I’m not sure. Saw one today on my way into a building – again, not too uncommon – but I like to think it was for me 🙂

    Lynn, I love that your daughter has claimed this beloved prayer bible of your’s. Seeing my mother’s strong consistent prayer life reading her bible in the mornings and drinking her coffee quietly to herself, was something I so admired even as a rotten teenager. She never lectured me on the importance of daily bible reading. But she didn’t have to because she lived it, and when I came to a place where I was ready to seek the Lord…I knew what to do because of her example. There is something so wonderful and comforting about picking up my mother’s bible and reading from it, pages falling out and all. I have been working on breaking in my own bible…it is slowly but surely loosening up!

    Since the beginning of April, my focus on reading the bible and praying has been greatly diminished. Before that, I was just starting to get into a good rhythm in the am and was having some great prayer time. I really don’t know why, but I just can’t stay focused. Basically the only prayer I eek out these days are “Dear God, please help me focus on you, give me unquenchable desire to read your word and spend time with you.” I really do want this dedication back. I would so appreciate your prayers to help me break through this slump.

    Wow…just wow…God is an on time God, I was just speaking to him, before this email came in my inbox, telling him I want to have new experiences with him meaning want to feel his presence very close to me all the time..then bam! this email came in.     I also have got devotions sent to my phone from Joyce Meyer Ministries. I really enjoy them but I noticed I missed going to my bible which I have had for years and have notes also. So I’m going back to reading out of my bible too. Evenings before going to bed are good for me but I like going to your web site in the morning. I do get angry sometimes because I tell God how can I have a relationship if I can’t hear him, but I keep studying and things are coming along and I get little signs here and there which give me a peace and excitement in my heart.

    I do need to start this. I participated in a Bible in 90 Days group last year but didn’t finish. It required about an hour of reading a day or 12 pages or so. While I was doing this, it made a huge difference in my life. Thanks for this encouragement!

    Thank you for your precious words Lynn. It so hit home to me. I am dealing with a stronghold with my finesses.. and I hate to say this but the evil one has a bit of me. (and wanting more) I know what I should do but just can’t seem to do it. And the truth is I miss Jesus’s presence…… I read the bible every morning, but don’t feel him near me. My God moments are gone. Anyway I pray for Grace over my life and still thank God for his many blessings..thank you again for being so faithful to what the Lord wants of you… It is helping me Kathy

    I like to get up early, make my coffee (yum!) & Klove is the first stop when I get online.
    My purpose for getting up an hour and half before I really had to, was to read the Bible & my Devotionals & blogs like this wonderful one. I also started a prayer journal, though I haven’t been following through as much as I would like to on that. Some mornings, I am more focused on what I read then others, sometimes I feel like I’m just “going through the motions” (and other emails etc seem to get more of my attention)… but other times, it is exactly what I need to hear, or later in the day I’m able to share something I’ve read with my co worker or fiends….so I guess it’s not all about me 😉
    I too have a Bible app & have found time to read while the kids are at their sports….I’ve been moving through the NT & I find that even when I haven’t read for awhile, when I do, it tends to be exactly what I need to hear at that moment. I know I need to spend more consistant, routine time with the Lord, but I also have been reminded so much in the last few months to keep my focus on him, that I tend to Ramble throughout the day, in short prayers, longer rambles & just reminders of how GREAT & wonderful He is (through ministries like this, or the radio or just the wonder of the world).
    I too have a hunger to learn more….and just need the discpline to do so.

    During the winter I try to get up to sit for half an hour in front of my SAD lamp—or kick-the-blues-away lamp—and I’ll read and pray. Summer has been killing me for getting up before my kids, it seems no matter how I try to rise before them, they are up not long after I get up.
    But I just realized today that God sends me deer or sometimes just wildlife. (not feathers or rain)One time in specific I was walking in the woods crying and trying to make sense of some heartbreaking circumstances. I was asking God where He was in all this when suddenly a deer jumped in front of me and stopped and stared at me for a long breathtaking minute. I just knew God sent me this deer! I just forgot about it. Then I would randomly see deer when no one else would see them in random spots. I’d be sleeping in the car and wake up and look out the window and there would be deer, or I’d be walking downtown in the city in between apartments and there would be a deer. Once I was working in a fishing/hunting camp and I was alone in camp while the guys were out looking for moose—they had seen no sign for a couple days of hard hunting. I was reading my bible and worshiping God at the camp fire, when I heard a bull moose grunt and then come blowing through camp on a rampage and then not a few minutes later a cow moose was standing on the edge of the lake and then a few minutes later another cow moose and her calf stepped out. God sent those moose for me! Because the guys never did find a moose until nearly 9 days later and I had three in camp in one morning—while I was worshiping the CREATOR! I have many stories like this now that I’m recognizing them for what they are! God sends me deer/moose/bears!!!!! Pretty stoked I now see these occurrences for what they are! My God loves me!

    Monday through Friday I get up at 6:20 and listen to a bible study on the radio while working out on my rowing machine. Then I go to my office and read my Bible. This is the first year that I am reading through the entire Bible. So far so good… I have such a thirst for God’s word. I can feel His wonderful presence in my life. When I don’t understand a passage of scripture I look it up on the internet. What would we do without the internet! I also have a prayer journal that I try to write in every day and a promise journal which I just started but am struggling with. I really feel that I need to spend more time in prayer and could use some advice. I love to listen to Christian Rock and I put my headphones on during my lunch breaks. I have found that I am so much more in tune with God and Heaven minded since I have been following this routine. I thank the Lord Jesus Christ for all that He is doing in my life and I want to truly serve Him.

    I start the day with a devotion, but save my Bible reading and study for the evenings. It centers me. I follow a chronological reading plan on my iPad. Chronological makes the story so much clearer. This year, I am reading Holman Christian Standard translation. It has good study notes. If a passage is difficult, I can switch to another translation or the Message paraphrase. I also have the “Bible Experience” audio version. The professional actors and sound effects help me form a mental picture of the passage.
    A couple times a year, I use the mornings to follow the SOAP approach to read through a book of the Bible. SOAP = Scripture, Observation, Application, and Prayer. You read 1 or 2 verses. Write it down. Color code key phrases with colored pencils. Write down observations about the message. Write down how to apply it. Write down and say a prayer about it This is a fantastic approach to slow down and really absorb it.
    I have Mom’s Bible. I carry it to church. I love her notes and underlines… in purple ink. It has cross-references and other helpful study aids. Your daughter is wise to ask you to hand down your Bible. There is a lot of love in that.

    I am struggling with finding time to read and pray. But worse than that, I’m struggling to find the desire to spend time with God. Intellectually I know I need to get closer to Him and spend time with Him but inside I feel numb and the love I had for Him when I had just become Christian feels far away. I find myself in a downwards spiral where I feel too bad to go to church because I don’t fit in there, but not going makes me feel worse which in turn leads to me being more isolated and having less desire to spend time with others or God. I don’t know how to break this circle. I started getting up early to read the Bible in the morning but found that I was too tired to focus and too tired to function well at work. Any prayer or advice would be appreciated. I truly don’t know where I am or what I’m doing.

    Lord, I pray for Emmie right now – increase in her life. Help her to be more focused and pull her closer to you. Surround her with your presence, so much that she cannot ignore it. Fill her with a desire to know you more. In Jesus name, Amen.

    I’ve tried reading in the mornings, but it seems that I cant ever stay focused at that time or that my reading is not effective. I’m a baby Christian, and over the last year I’ve really just been trying to find what works. Right now my reading is all over the place and I probably only read about 5 days a week. I’ve just started a routine where I read on my lunch break. God has really been asking me to get my weekends in order, and it would seem like the weekend would be when I have the most time to read, but I dont make it a priority. I think God is wanting me to become more disciplined on the weekends and get up early to do my prayer walk and then come home to read before the family wakes up.

    That is truly awesome! Something similar had happened to me. I actually did get up earlier than usual and made a cup of coffee. I took my Bible out on the deck with me and just started praying and mostly just praising God for his goodness. I was and still have been struggling with forgiving and loving others and it was in this moment of praising God that I felt a peace. Then I look over and saw two deer, a spike and a doe. They just slowly wandered and it was the ultimate picture of peace. The very next day, I rose early and was out on the deck with my Bible and reading a devotion, next thing I know I saw four deer, not very far away because I could make out the fact that there were three bucks,(the same spike, a four point and if half it’s rack wasn’t missing it would have probably been an eight point, and the doe). Again they stood in my driveway and very slowly wandered through the woods. The whole experience probably last ten minutes. The peace I felt at those moments were amazing! Praise God!

    Lord Jesus, thank you for Emmie’s transparency and honesty in her struggles. This is just a season and I just pray that you would reach out your arms and just hug her tight. Whisper in her ear that you will always love her, that you will always be there for her, especially in this difficult time. God I pray for a wildfire in her heart to be set for you. Lord, please bless Emmie and shine your light on her. I thank you for her and for the things you will do in her life. In Jesus Holy Name, Amen!

    It’s beautiful and awesome isn’t it! I just remembered another time I was lonely and crying and praying to God and writing out my prayers and I looked up and a little bull caribou blasted out of the bushes near my cabin and jumped into the lake and swam across! I even wrote it down in my journal as I was writing out my loneliness to God, it changed the whole tone of my writing! God sent me a caribou too! That’s awesome to hear he sent you those deer and accompanying peace! Awesome we share the same name too! 🙂

    I know I’m behind to pray but this very hour, I approach your throne with Jesus and Kendra. Lord, see her desire and also see the struggles and the spiritual warfare. Reveal it to Kendra so she can fight against the powers that want to keep her away from spending time with you.
    Show Kendra where to go in her home to spend time with you. Give her a glimpse of what this time can mean to you and what You want to do in her life through this appointment daily.

    Hi Emmie,
    My friend, I’m praying for you as well. And boy howdy, do I ever know how you feel about going to church.
    Emmie, fight with all you have to get to church. I know you don’t fit in. I never fit in either. I wanted to fit in soooo badly. But now years later God has shown me that by not fitting in, I now see others who also don’t fit in. My heart for them is filled with love and I reach out to them.
    Make one choice today. That you will go to church at least this Sunday. I’m praying for you to this end. I’m convinced you will feel encouraged.
    Lord, bring a passion and a hope to Emmmie. Let her see that you are actually standing right in the room with her, desperate to turn away from her distractions and the “fun” life. But that you have so much more for her and have adventures and laughter waiting. Give her courage. Joshua courage to fight for her time with You. Light in her a passion that cannot be quenched to meet with you daily and to worship you in your house. In Jesus powerful name and by His blood, I bring these requests. Amen.,
