What Do We Do About Halloween?

This display is on our street.
I hate walking by it.

This is a difficult question to work through. I know in my life, when I was a young mom, my kids dressed up. They couldn’t wait to come home with a bag of candy. Mike always walked the neighborhood with the other dads.

Not a big deal! Or perhaps it is????

What most people don’t understand, including believers, is that this night can be tricky? Get it? Grin!

Okay, I’m probably sensitive to anything that highlights the devil, demons, horror and gore. I work with people who have participated in the occult. What they are dealing with is intense, terrifying, and really difficult to remove from their lives.

Typically, people open themselves up to oppression because they give access to the enemy. This is the “free will” component of demonic oppression. There are many obvious ways the doors open, such as through intentional sin. Sin, at its root, is rebellion. The oldest sin in the book. The demonic gain access through trauma, occult practices, idol worship, certain music, media, etc.

Let me share just a couple of observations that I encountered this past couple of weeks. First, I attended a neighborhood bunco get together one evening a week ago. I immediately noticed Halloween ambiance playing through YouTube in her house. The scene was a haunted house, and the music was “spooky.” It felt witchy to me.

After listening to it for an hour, I sat at one of the tables and I felt this creepy feeling come over me and I knew I would win every roll. It was weird. I think this was evil, offering up an enticement. Lynn, you will win if you partner with me. WHOA!!!!!!!

Okay, that was really weird. Here is another problematic issue. A home, in our neighborhood has a Halloween display of distorted clowns. It completely creeps me out and I hate driving by it. The display is, now get this, children in cages, held by these demented clowns. In the very front of the yard is a GIANT Tarantula. It is at least 6-8 feet off the ground. It faces the road and is positioned as if ready to strike anyone who dares to walk by.

What the owner of this house fails to recognize is these violet displays, there is blood too, is an open door to invite demonic critters to infiltrate. For crying out loud, these people have Hell on full display in their front yard. It’s like a broadcast into the spirit realm, “Evil Spirits, come on in.”

A couple of weeks ago I drove by and was stunned to catch a quick sight of a demon on top of the spider riding it like a bucking bronco. I did a double take, and the image was gone. But I sensed in my spirit that it was still there and gleefully laughing in a hideous, scratchy, snark. My friends, the consequence of a hellish display on your property is that the kids in that home and their neighbors then wonder why their two-year-old is having nightmares for weeks.

Christians, this stuff is real. Halloween is challenging for us because our spouses don’t believe in the spiritual realm. But we know it’s real. Remember one third of Christ ministry was to deliver the demon oppressed.

Be thoughtful about the costumes you choose for your kids. Be aware of where they are going. A lot of really evil things go on leading into the witching hour of Halloween Eve, the day and night of Halloween, and Day of the Dead. I am so over it by November 2nd!!!!!!!

Don’t go into fear but stand in your authority in Christ. Stay clear of horror, witchcrafty movies and social media, crystals, tarot cards, psychics and never sage your house. I find there are Christians, unaware, that they are participate in occult practices.

Do you have questions about this topic? What safe practices do you have at your home maintain the Presence of the Holy Spirit?

When you walk by a scary house, leave it with a blessings: Jesus, destroy every work of evil in this home. Bless those who live here with an awareness of your love and goodness. Amen.

Share your experience with me in the comments. Blessings and hugs, Lynn
