Well that is true. However, isn't that what God's ideal of marriage is all about? 

Walk with us as we explore the mystery and brilliance of marriage under the sovereign hand of God. 

Today on our first broadcast, The Intentional Marriage, we will chat about the mysteries of how God works through our married life to bring about His plans for us. It is the highest calling on a life and the Lord's most favored tool to teach us how to overcome, to discover joy, live in peace, figure out our struggles and to live in authentic relationship.

We will be writing words of advice from our now more mature married self to the young married girl we were in the first year of marriage.
You can write about any or all of the following three things. 

Then over the next several our months the meme will focus a single issues such as respect, communication, the bedroom and apply these three themes to that specific area of marriage.

Remember we will be compiling your words of advice for a book. there is so much wisdom, grace and humor in our online community. We want to share it as well as pass it on to our daughters. So write well and let me know you have an entry. Also, you can contribute through the comments.

Finally, I will be giving away to five of you who join our meme or add to our book through comments a copy of The Dream Giver. This book will inspire you to follow your God given dreams.

    By the way, as I look at this photo of myself as a young (and skinny bride… sheesh) I would look in my eyes as say….
    “Girlfriend, relax… You don’t always have to be right. Don’t take yourself so seriously and just love Jesus…. It all works out in the end and Christ is greatly honored because you chose to trust Him.”
    Whoa…. I wonder what I will tell myself in another 10 years??? I can’t wait to find out. Hugs, Lynn

    I haven’t been married but for 4 1/2 years,but I would tell that young married girl to always say what you mean. Men and women hear differently and if I want my husband to really understand me I can’t beat around the bush. Be truthful and honest,but loving. It’s not always about serious things either. If I want him to change the baby I should say hey baby could you change Aaron instead of Aaron needs changing and wait for him to do it,but when he doesn’t I get mad at him. We communicate different,but we have to learn to communicate clearly! 🙂

    Great Broadcast Lynn, I will approach the throne in a whole different way from now on. Thank you Jesus!
    I would say to my young self 31 years ago to not worry about every little thing. I also tended to be sarcastic with my words to express how I really felt and I believe hurt alot of people. Just say it like it is without thinking. I’m learning to be very sensitive to others and how they are feeling. I would also tell myself, quoting Dineen from her Bio…. “life is not a problem to be solved but a gift to be enjoyed.” My worry kept me from really enjoying each and every experience. Live the moment and don’t look for what’s always next and if you are living it out right.

    I think if I could talk to myself then I would say, let your husband lead the family. Encourage him to. Let him help with the diapers and everything else, even if he doesn’t do it the same way you do. It doesn’t matter.
    What matters is that from this day forward, you’re building a life together so build a marriage you want to still live in 10, 25, and 50 years from now. And God willing, even longer.

    What lovely brides you both were!
    After being married for 33 years, I would tell my newly married self to ALWAYS remember the depth of passion for EVERYTHING that I felt on that day…so many times our feelings betray us…but if our minds can recall the things that brought us together in love…and know they are REAL…are hearts can heal from words spoken in haste…
    I would tell the young bride to realize that just because he doesn’t like some of your cooking, or your decorating, or how you iron his clothes…does not mean he doesn’t love YOU…it is an adjustment to go from pleasing only yourself…and trying to please another unique human being with different likes and dislikes…
    Lastly, I would say to always remember to LAUGH together…be silly…be real…and just love what God has joined together….

    Blessings Lynn and Dineen… I LOVE watching you finally from your archives…I tried on the day and when I couldn’t work it at the time, I just pray… for you & the INTENTIONAL MARRIAGE in all its aspects.
    Love seeing you & hearing you, Lynn. This is truly a beautiful glimpse into you, marriage and JESUS! I loved listening to you & “IMAGINE…” me with Him, Our Lord Jesus. Inspired to live my life seeking Him at His throne.
    Of course, I have to ponder to really answer what my older self would say to my younger self (so this does not count) but you know my story (or could read the whole 7 part story “THIS IS MY STORY” on my blog – not just my marriage)(maybe I need a rewrite) so since I’m not in a
    successful or God ordained marriage… I would look back over 40 years and say:
    “DON’T”
    Your heart is blinded by what you mistake as LOVE! Others have told you “NOT TO” but you won’t listen. You are far too stubborn and rebellious for your own good. This will cost you dearly until you do marriage, the way God intended you to marry… you can’t make wrongs right. You can’t undo wrong choices, or decisions. But you can learn to take everything to your Heavenly Father first and WAIT, and LISTEN to all He has to say. Impulsiveness will not work. Just like infatuation is not real love. Though others have the wrong reasons for telling you this won’t work, it won’t work because it is not according to the plan of God. The love you feel is not the love of 1 Corinthians 13. You are being blind sided by believing you can prove that this relationship is right, by believing that this man is right, that his love is right,
    it is not… his actions and service to mankind are not to be confused with love of God, for he hardly knows God, in fact, he does not believe at all like you, even in your naive beliefs not yet founded on God’s Word… you have chosen but the choice will cost you dearly! Awake!
    See the truth! See the reality! See what God wants you to see about His love, and that He has a plan for you. You are running ahead of Him, you may be running away from Him, but you are not running with Him towards a marriage that was meant to be. You have blocked your ears, your eyes and your heart. You have let your feelings, though immature, guide you and set you up for destruction because you believe the lies of someone who wants to deceive you. You have accepted this love as one from God and believe that it is authentic but it is not a healthy love. Please get into God’s WORD, understand His WORD & HIS intention for marriage and DON’T follow a blind heart, a confused heart, an immature, rebellious heart, but a HEART after pleasing God and the LOVE He has for you, a complete LOVE, a wholeness and an intimate LOVE that you have not yet known but you think you have. BE STILL… LISTEN… STOP RUNNING… OPEN YOURSELF TO GOD & HIS LOVE FIRST…CLOSE YOUR MIND & HEART TO LIES and LEAN on the EVERLASTING LOVE rather than one you choose to fight for…lay it all down and surrender, admit you are wrong, come into a right relationship and PRAY, SEEKING GOD’S WILL for YOU, He will make your corrected path straight, your broken heart healed, and restore the wrongs committed that you can never make right, just confess them as wrong and walk away, by running to GOD!

    sorry..it was not humorous, practical or powerfully positive although it was truth! And it definitely was not short… I maybe should have stopped at “DON’T”… the rest was without thinking but as it flowed… love you, Peggy
