I’ve been thinking about the ups and downs my husband and I have been through in our marriage over the years. It’s easy to think that he is the problem but it’s not until God gently shows us “the plank in our own eyes” that we realize we have issues we need to work on too.

I can honestly say that I cringe at some of the worst behavior for which I am responsible. Things such as refusing to help my husband when he’s asked me to, being downright stubborn and not giving in when I know he’s right and being so angry at him that it was bordering on having a hateful attitude.

Thank goodness God has bopped me about the head a few times and awakened before it’s too late. What sort of ambassador of Christ am I if God made me in His image but my heart attitude behaves otherwise? God’s been good at forgiving my sins over the years and it’s up to me to offer my husband the same mercy too. Instead of holding onto my frustrations and anger, letting them build to where I’m full of pride, I now use the end of each day to let them all go. Sometimes it isn’t easy but more often than not God helps me work through each situation as it happens.

You know what’s funny? We can harp on at our husband’s about things we want them to hear, things they’ve done wrong but it’s like water off a ducks back. It’s not until someone else comes along and offers the same opinion that they then listen. That’s where God comes in – why go on about something when He can do a better job of getting their attention?

I tend to think it’s all about self-pride but we all mess up once in a while and each time He picks us up, dusts us off and sets us on our way again. God’s good like that.
