A friend told me about this particular verse being the topic of discussion on a Christian radio station. It peaked my interest for sure, because this is something my husband and I have been very intentional about throughout our 24 years of marriage. 

We don't go to bed angry.

This works for the most part, but occasionally there will be an issue that can't be solved in one discussion. Those are the times we agree to return to the subject when we have a better solution, but even then, the anger is disappated and we are back to that "we" mentality.

Sometimes that's not easy, but I do believe this has helped our marriage immenseley. Anger has a nasty way of festering in the mind and heart, especially overnight. I don't know why but obviously God does, or I don't think He would have been so specific with this Scripture. 

What do you think? Do you make a point of resolving conflict before going to bed? Or at least agree to disagree?

    Dineen, I do agree because anger gives a foothold. But, I also know, like you said, you can’t always resolve your differences. And I heard some wise advice about this very thing.
    If it’s not solved at 2:30 a.m., it’s not going to be solved at 3:00 a.m. either. Go to sleep. You can deal with it tomorrow, assuming you even remember what the fight was about. Sheila Wray Gregoire
    She is hilarious. For me, I wake up the next morning and kinda like Sheila, I think what was all the hoopla about. God has an amazing way to smooth things out in my sleep. *grin*. This doesn’t mean that things are just ignored, sometimes they really stop to matter to me. And, I also hold dearly to the scripture Ephesians 4:26 “In your anger do not sin”: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry. I find this true that by 2 a.m. I’m not angry, just worn out. *giggle*
    You set a great example and I KNOW you live it out in real life. Hugging you my friend. You always inspire me.
    Off to the mountains to pick apples today with Caitie. Can’t wait.

    hello dineen – I know this verse too but this doesnt work for jack and I – sometimes we are too upset or angry or feel the other misunderstands “me” and are NOT able to resolve before 2 am –
    so I spoke about this with a friend and got this answer:
    Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry —- can mean dont allow yourselves to STAY angry for TOO long, meaning….it is relative of course – but dont allow marriage-smog too long in the bedroom – Jack and I try to resolve before going to bed – but sometimes it happens AT bedtime — so we resolve it usually within 24 hours – but again – to be honest – we have had a 3 month marriage crisis too in 2010

    Oh, that sounds like so much fun! I love fall!!! Well, you know how nonconfrontational Mike and I are. We can’t stand being at odds with each other. I think it’s our personality types. LOL! there’s a downside to that though. Hugs!
