Weekend Devo – BIG FAITH!

MovingMountains When he had gone indoors, the blind men came to him, and he asked them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” “Yes, Lord,” they replied. Then he touched their eyes and said, “According to your faith let it be done to you”; and their sight was restored. Jesus warned them sternly, “See that no one knows about this.” – Matthew 8: 28-30

Yesterday after I read this piece of Scripture, I prayed for big faith. God’s Word had convicted me and made me realize that I’ve hidden behind a safe faith the last year because I was afraid of more disappointment.

That’s the danger we face in this life riddled with all kinds of challenges and trials that seem to go on and on without answer to our prayers. I’d chosen to protect my heart but I’d also sacrificed seeing God move in my life.

Well, today I’m praying for “big faith. The BIG, WILLING-TO-RISK-MY-HEART-TO-BELIEVE FAITH!

Lord Jesus, you are the author and perfecter of our faith. So make it big! We want to be like the blind men who came to you and believed completely in your ability to heal them. Whatever you’ve put on our hearts and minds, Lord, help us to step out of our safe faith zones and trust you more. Make our faith grow in huge ways and let it be done to us according to our faith! We believe you will do great things in 2011! In your precious name we pray, Jesus. Amen!

    Amen! You can put me on your list because I want BIG faith too. As a matter of fact, I’ve been praying in a similar way. Mathew 21:22 Father increase my faith to believe for all things you put on my heart to pray about. I believe God is going to give us BIG faith! Hugging you!

    Wow Dineen,
    Such a powerful post and one that speaks to me as well. I want to BELIEVE. and not doubt… I KNOW in my head all the things, the amazing astounding things God can and will do, but that tiny seed of doubt creeps in. I WANT BIG FAITH. Faith to move the mountain, to find healing and wholeness for me and prayers big enough for others who stop in here to see God’s miracles in their lives.

    Oh no, I’m sensing a theme here!
    I just came from Joni’s daily devotional and she was talking about Isaiah 54:2. God wanted His people to enlarge the place of their tents. Joni explained– “Your vision is too small because of your pain,” God said. “Expand your tent pegs out a few notches and live as if you have it all. Because you do! You have my prophecy of a mighty nation. You have my undying love. My forgiveness. My power. You have me!”
    then you ask me to join you in praying for BIG FAiITH !!
    Guess that is the direction God wants to take me this year…thou as Joni said, I want to just sit sometimes in my small, comfortable, known tent…I am feeling Him urging me to get up and out, and stretch out my tent, my prayers, and my expectations for what He wants to do in and through my life this year.
    I’m a bit nervous about this but glad to know there are others in the ‘prayer circle’ that are doing it too!
    I’m also a bit excited…can’t wait to see what He is going to do!

    Only yesterday I was reading in Mark 11:22-26. Hard to understand, but the Lord says “I tell you the truth, if anyone says to this mountain, “Go, throw yourself into the sea,” and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. And when you stand praying, if you hold anything angainst anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins.”
    I want to understand the Lord’s words and to have the faith that He wants me to have. Please add me to your list, and I will also be praying for you.

    Oh Karen, that part about your vision being too small because of your pain is where I’ve been living. And that’s the place I’m stepping out of. God is calling us to BIG FAITH this year.     Wow Dineen, I always seem to hide behind my heart so it might not get hurt and I so want BIG FAITH as well. My verse this year is Deuteronomy 31:8 “The Lord HIMSELF goes before you and will be with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; Do not be discouraged.” Also Hebrews 11:1 tells us the familar verse that “Faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.”
    I will continue to pray for you ladies at SUM as I am so grateful that you have already stepped out in faith having this website so that we can be assured that we are not alone. Thank you Dineen!

    I want and need big faith. Our church started a series in January about Growth and so far it has been very encouraging to me. I need my faith to grow by leaps and bounds. It’s nice to know I am in good company! 🙂

    This post really spoke to me, thank you so much! Please add me to your prayer list – I want to have BIG faith!!
    I have been able to leave my unbelieving husband in God’s hands, but I just realised that I do not trust God to “take care of” my future children in the sense that they will grow up believing in Him. It has even brought me to consider not having children at all even though I know with all my heart that God wants me to be a mother!

    Ok Dineen. I was so trying to avoid this post. But God has been dealing with me on this for MONTHS. Dr. Blackaby was a guest Pastor at our church in August and one thing the Lord spoke to me then was: “I want you to want more. Believe Me for more. Seek Me. Trust Me. Ask Me for more.”
    So. Ok Neen. I need this like u wouldn’t believe. I want BIG FAITH too…

    Hi Karianne,
    I totally understand your concerns, but let me reassure you that if God has put this on your heart to be a mother, He has plans for those children already. He will take care of that, so trust Him with that as well. My girls are 21 and 17. My husband was fine with me taking them to church as long as I agreed to let them choose for themselves when they got old enough, to choose to believe or not. They chose Jesus! God did that. Not me. If anything, in light of their dad’s unbelief, they appreciate their faith more. So let me encourage you to first and foremost, trust God and if He’s leading you to have children, do so! Turn those future kiddos over to Him too.

    Me too, Ro! Me too! I’m walking this path too. I am making that my prayer, “Lord, help me to believe you for more! And ask!” So often we don’t even think to ask, we just assume it’s too much or too selfish. I’m learning my way through this one too, girl.

    I too want to be added to your list of those who are looking for BIG FAITH this year. During the fast when we wrote down our Top 10 I believe the Lord spoke this to me. I was so hesitant to write down the first things that came to me during my quiet time that day and God called me on it. I was afraid I would be wrong about them (as if God expects me to know everything!) and I was not believing that He could in fact make possible the impossible.
    So count me in and add me to your list Dineen! I’m am looking for BIG FAITH this year!

    Hi Dineen,
    I read and re-read this post. My first reaction was this is not for me. Not this year. Not this time. With everything going on in my life it felt like any faith I had had was squashed. But, then I read in Karens comment…”Your vision is too small because of your pain.” Wow. That is so very much me. I have allowed my pain to cloud my vision to the point of almost giving up. Fortunately for me, God keeps on prodding me…pushing me…to not give up..to not lose faith…that HE is there…always…no matter what the circumstances are.
    Please add me to your prayer list. I want…no I NEED…to have Big Faith this year.

    Hi Stacy,
    I know what you mean, that’s the same place I’ve been operating out of too. But so many of us seem to be hearing the same thing from God right now. In fact, another woman emailed from Africa telling me she felt God calling her to bigger faith, to trust God more. I’m floored by how universal this message seems to be right now.
    So, girl, I have you on my list and I’ll be praying all year. God wants us to walk in bold confidence in Him, trusting Him for each day and knowing He’s with us all the way! Big things are already happening. BELIEVE IT! He will move in great ways in your life. Not easy stuff, but the result will exceed anything you can imagine! Love and hugs to you, Stacy!
