I was just stopped on the street by my next-door neighbor, Mary. She is a widow who lives alone in a giant two-story home. She is of Greek decent and speaks with a thick accent. I struggle to understand her and she me.
James 1:27 (New International Version)
27Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.
This encounter is significant because God keeps bringing this scripture before me in many different circumstances in the last several weeks.
Back to the story. Yesterday, Mary had the Verizon folks over and they installed her new television system. Today it crashed. I mean the black screen of death. Now this is a widow with no television. She is bored and asked me if I could help.
Yikes, I can barely figure out how to blog. However, my prince will arrive home today and he is gifted with computers, televisions, and systems of all sorts. I mean, he is like the Geek Squad on steroids when it comes to electronics.
He will kindly visit Mary. He will diagnose her problem and in all likelihood fix it. He is a genius. The entire neighborhood calls him when they need help with a computer.
So today, I give thanks for my husband’s “systems abilities” and mostly for his kindness to help widows, and everyone else on the block with their computers.
