Secret Sin – A Barrier To Breakthrough

My friends, let’s talk about this unique thing, we the religious, call prayer. In fact, right off the bat, I want to debunk all the “religiousness” off this word. Let’s call it what it really is. Prayer is only a word to describe talking to God. And when we cast of all the religiosity off the word, do you know what happens? 

We discover a few amazing aspects of talking to God. 

I likely will cover a few posts with this topic so hold on. It’s gonna be good because I’m convinced we, as the SUMite, Church Without Walls, are being called into a new place of prayer. Not just ordinary prayer but prayer that manifests immediate action, miracles, lives impacted, nations changed. 

Before I write about all that exciting stuff, let’s talk about what happens when we pray and we don’t receive our breakthrough. I think God has been leading me in this very place in the last six months. I’ve come to understand breakthroughs and also understand why other prayers remain unanswered, for at least the time being. 

I’m going to be very vulnerable here. I finally believe I fully understand why I can pray and literally see God move immediately. I can receive prayer and believe for my supernatural healing and receive it. Yet, I’m defeated in other areas of health. Specifically, all of the colds and flu this past six months. There can be several reasons why answers to prayer are delayed or remain powerless. Today I’m going to describe mine. 

Sin. 

I’ve allowed an area of sin to remain in my life. For a long while God has called me to give up having a glass of wine at night with dinner. Which could become more than a glass of wine. Now drinking wine is not a sin. I’m not an abuser nor an alcoholic, however, for me, God no longer wants this evening “past-time” to be present in my life. For lots of reason, too many to list here. One primarily, is that it’s not good for me and the Lord has been trying to restore my health. 

Each time I’ve fallen to a cold virus or bacteria is because I have been outside of the protection of God because of my deliberate sin. I know this clearly now. Now this is only for me, however, when I disobey God it’s an open door for access of the enemy. And right now the devil wants to keep me incapacitated so that I won’t write this next book. What has been fascinating is the messages God has been sending me about this secret sin. Through the television, through my prayer time. Practically every time I read the Word, I land on a scripture specific to this issue. Sheesh. Finally, two days ago, I receive a private message from a dear friend and she called it out. 

Gulp! 

God is desperate to heal me. And now that the secret it no longer secret, I’m going to step into healing. 

Now, you may want to judge me for struggling in this area, and I understand that. But I also know that everyone of us struggles with some secret sin in their lives. 

Disobedience has kept me from healing and from receiving the blessing of the very prayers I’m praying. 

No one likes to talk about obedience. It’s not popular and it doesn’t edify nor lift our souls. But if we aren’t real about what is keeping us from victory, how will any of God’s children find breakthrough. 

So, as of today. I’m done with that nonsense. I’m choosing to change old habits and walk in complete and perfect health the rest of my life. 

I pray my honesty brings freedom to someone else out there. I pray my honesty allows you to see that I’m not always together. I’m not a super Christian. I’m a child of God who is only determined to live fully for my Lord. Thank you for loving me in my brokenness. 

And on Friday, let’s talk about what power and answers can and will come from those of us who are broken, yet redeemed. All of us who are Poor in Spirit. 

Do you need prayer for a secret sin in your life? If you are consumed by a weakness, shame guilt, fear, today is your freedom day. Tell me about it. I will pray for you. 

I don’t fully understand but even now, when I pray through the comments, things can and do happen. SUMites, Church Without Walls, we need to become completely free, receive our breakthroughs so that we can then take freedom to our world.

    Lynn, just last night in our SUM meeting at my church, we did the Gilgal Ceremony, as we called it, taken from Joshua 4 and 5. Three things the new generation of Israelites had to do once they crossed over the Jordan River into Canaan before they could move forward. We wanted to see how those three things were still revelant to us today.
    One of those things was circumcision, which to us means circumcision of the heart. So, we each went through the process of confessing that secret sin in our lives that the Lord has been dealing with us about. Something about confessing those secret things before others is a very humbling experience. But the beauty of it is you can now move forward and not be held captive to satan’s finger pointing.
    And so, I confess with you, mine was anger. But for the last two months, after calling upon the Holy Spirit to help me and show me how to respond to those things that would normally cause me to come un-glued so to speak, I now have a new found freedom within and I am moving forward away from this secret sin. And prayer has played a big role in helping me from other Sumites.
    So, your secret is out now–I believe you will be moving forward.

    I love the topic of prayer. I believe this year the Lord is moving me to the point that I talk to Him about everything. I want to be in constant prayer with Him. My secret sin… too much tv. I’ve been watching 3 hrs at least a night, plus sometimes during the day after I get home. I usually always am multi tasking while I am doing that but the Lord is telling me that I need less time with tv and more time with Him. Reading good books, listening to messages, listening to music… etc. Thank you for your prayers in this area.

    Lynn, your (and Dineen) honesty and authenticity is what has kept me here all these years. We need to be reminded that our leaders aren’t perfect or else it would be easy to place you up on a pedestal. The Lord is working on my heart today too. For me it’s letting go of anger and resentment toward one person that has drug my family through such hell. But God and I are working on it today. Prayers and hugs!

    AMEN Kathy! Been there done that. The AWESOME thing is that when our relationship becomes stronger and intimate with our Daddy? We don’t even HAVE to GUESS any longer at what it is that hinders our growth and power. He tells us! Either conviction through the Spirit or through a loving person in our life.
    When we give it to Him….He takes away the desire.
    John 1:20 ~ LOOK! HERE COMES JESUS and HE can take away this sin! Let’s go to HIM!

    I am in agreement with my Sumites Lynn in saying I too have stayed with this community because we “keep it real!”
    We all need someone we can go to and be accountable with. Personally that has helped ME to grow in my own struggles and overcome the barriers that block us from the FULL POWER that God desires for us all to begin experiencing MORE!
    CHRIST IN US.

    I am believing a POWERFUL TURN AROUND has been LOOSED from heaven now Lynn!
    I mean…SUMTHING BIG that we will ALL be privileged to WITNESS and be touched by in our own lives because of your openness!!
    God is going to move in convicting and healing ways through this humble act that will help us ALL recognize now the hindrance that is keeping us blocked from OPENING the GIFT inside us!
    I think at this point I need to ask prayer for anger and frustration to be bound up and for Kingdom peace and joy be loosed in my Spirit.
    UNLOCK THE POWER WITHIN US LORD!
    We give you all that is a barrier in our lives which holds us knowingly and unknowingly from receiving in FULL the mighty power of Christ in us as a result of the Cross. I ask for SUPERNATURAL strength to surface in each of us now as we go forward in this day to carry our cross and live out the Mission you have handed us as Christians.

    I so struggle with words, so am just throwing out my secret sin..fear of people’s opinion of me. I want to be bold and am ashamed at the many times I have not spoken up for the Truth, even when convicted to say something. Thank you Lynn and Dineen for being here for us!!

    For me, it’s fear. The what if’s. Worry. I tell people I struggle with it. But I’m not always honest about the ‘depth’ of that fear. Some days, it’s paralyzing. Because of what’s going on right now, the devil is using it to torment me even more. I read the bible, I pray, I quote scripture to myself….but to no avail. It’s tiring.

    Judy, as a “recovering approval addict” fearful of people’s opinion of me to the point of not speaking up for truth, I understand where you are coming from. I haven’t arrived yet, but there are a couple of things that has helped me that brought a lot of healing in my life in that regard that I want to share with you. Keep in mind, everyone is different, so this is what helped me. First of all, my temperament played a huge part in wanting the approval of others. I am a phlegmatic, which is a don’t rock the boat kind of person, peace at all extremes, do anything to keep peace and harmony. But the beauty of that kind of temperament is that it also has many strengths, so when God showed me my strengths, He helped me to start walking in them and I became more bold to speak the truth. Another thing that helped me was when God began to lead me in a new direction in my life. I basically knew it was not going to be met with approval from some family members. So, I was at a crossroads and had to make a bold decision according to Acts 5:29: We ought to obey God than man, and according to Galatians 1:10: Do I now persuade men or God? Or do I seek to please men? For if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of God. Sorry this is so long, but I wanted to pass on to you things that I have experienced that might be of help to you.

    I know, Lynette. I was there last year. Cling to 1 Peter 5:6-10. Pray it over yourself as a declaration, “Lord, I am casting all my cares upon you for You, Lord Jesus, are restoring me and making me steadfast, strong and firm. Amen!”
    This is a promise and it is for you, Lynette. He WILL do this for you.

    My battle is with food (overeating-gluttony) and how that has translated to affecting my appearance and weight. I’ve prayed over this for years without complete breakthrough but I see now that is because I haven’t been obedient. Now I’m learning radical obedience and am believing my breakthrough is coming. And when it happens I will know it was ALL HIM! Praise God!

    Dear Lynn,
    Praise the Lord! One of the reasons that obedience is so important, is that true obedience comes from trust. If we are trusting the Lord, we obey Him implicitly. A dear friend of mine who has now been a missionary in China for many years, before she was called to China had a little plate hanging in her kitchen. It was God speaking to her, and it said, “Just hang around and do what I say.” This was the basis of her life with the Lord.
    1 Samuel 15:22 But Samuel replied, “What is more pleasing to the LORD: your burnt offerings and sacrifices or your obedience to his voice? Listen! Obedience is better than sacrifice, and submission is better than offering the fat of rams.
    Now fast-forward to Romans 12, where it says:
    Romans 12:1 “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. ”
    Under the Old Testament laws which God gave to Moses, the Jews were to offer a daily sacrifice as well as special sacrifices on certain specified days and occasions. Now all those sacrifices have been done away with, and we are encouraged by Paul to separate ourselves to God on a daily basis as a living sacrifice. The word translated “reasonable” is the Greek word Logikos, from which we get our word “logical,” and it means, “rational, possible in the light of”. This service is not only possible, but logical in the light of all Paul has explained about the gospel in the preceding chapters of Romans, where he shows us that we are the recipients of a new nature through the atonement of Christ and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, all of which we have received as a result of God’s grace and mercy, and not through any merit of our own. Grace meaning, God gives and I receive by faith alone. But I was never quite sure what was meant by sacrifice until 1 Samuel 15:22 made it clear, that the Lord counts my obedience as sacrifice and better than sacrifice. Also, see Psalm 40:6-8.
    So obedience comes from trust and trust comes from love. And we love Him because He first loved us. 1 John 4:19.
    I struggled for years to forgive someone in my family. Every time I remembered a wrong that had been done to me by that person, I took it to the Lord and forgave that person, again and again. But this issue never fully resolved until I stopped doing that and started to receive and experience the amazing, overwhelming love that God has for me! To finally begin to understand that God is pleased with me! That He sees me as perfect in Jesus, and is continuously working on perfecting me even in this imperfect world, that He WILL perfect that which concerns me (Psalm 138:8). And this year when I met that person again, I suddenly realized that all my issues with that person were gone. That nothing that person had done to me in the past or would do to me in the future mattered any more because God’s love for me is so great that it overrides anything else. Thank You, Jesus!
    Heb. 12:1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us,
    When I was meditating on what the sin that so easily entangles could be, I suddenly realized that this sin can be different for every person. Each of us has one or more sins that easily entangle us. Dearly beloved SUMite community, I am praying for each and every one of us to have renewed revelation of God’s enormous love for each of us, because that revelation will cause us to love Him more and to live holier for Him as a by-product of that love than we ever tried to do on purpose before.

    LOL! Forgive my chuckle, but, my friend, I think many of us battle this. The enemy uses that which is common to try to defeat us and he knows we can just not eat. We can fast and follow the Holy Spirit’s leading. God’s first word to me on this was 2 Cor 12:9. He told me that probably two years ago, maybe longer. Now I’m understanding that I’ve tried to overcome this on my own. I’m walking literally moment by moment seeking Him and the strength to be obedient. He’s the one who needs to change me. I’m using His Word, for instance Romans 6 says we are dead to sin, so I am saying to gluttony that I am dead to that, in the name of Jesus! His name is powerful to overcome all! Amen!

    DO NOT BE ASHAMED Judy! That is from the enemy. I believe it’s more of a conviction you experienced that is getting your Spirit geared up to becoming bold and unashamed to SPEAK TRUTH!

    I know this feeling too Lynette and when I heard Joyce Meyer’s teaching on Battlefield of the Mind and then of course Lynn and Neen’s lessons here on the same debilitating tactic the enemy uses, the FACT finally dawned on me to CHOOSE my thoughts. God’s WORD to us IS:
    Philippians 4:8 ~ Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable–if anything is excellent or praiseworthy–think about such things.
    THAT made a HUGE DIFFERENCE! NOW when the FEAR and DOUBT thoughts creep in, as they JUST DID TODAY at work about some personal things, I said, NO! I am NOT going to ENTERTAIN those thoughts. I will think on GOOD things because God is trying to tell us, THIS life we are living now with Christ in us? is a SUPERNATURAL LIFE and when we think on these thoughts it’s NOT just to give us peace, it MOVES things in the Spiritual realms to SPEAK OUT good things and THINK ON good things.
    This isn’t a word of comfort. This is a word for us to USE and ENACT.
    We seriously DO need to start transforming our minds to THINK and PONDER as we STAND in the KINGDOM living as His Princes and Princesses. NOT in this world as a simple human being anymore.
    We have POWER in us!!

    Oh Lynn! I love your transparency. I am so glad you have brought up this lesson. It’s truly awesome in how we are being led by Abba to His kingdom here on earth! LOVE IT! I Was thinking on this last week, what it was that was blocking me from my joy and peace. I knew it was disobedience…yet I still pushed it back. So now Abba brings it forward to me, through our church without walls. Yikes!
    So yes…search my heart oh Lord….my secret sins are several. Seemingly small, but I know in my heart they are hindering my relat with my Savior. I’m a procrastinator, I tend to leave things till “tomorrow”, I’m also a bit lazy. I tend to not have my room “presentable” to the point of not putting clothes away for several days. I tend to excuse it with the thought that since I don’t have a husband around to “please” I can just let it go. I too have a lack of control with food and exercise.
    This is very humbling for me, as I also don’t like people to have a negative opinion of me. So sharing this was not very easy.
    I’m standing alongside you my sweet sisters, declaring victory in Jesus for breakthroughs that are coming our ways.
    Praying for our hearts to be obedient and for these not so secret sins anymore, to be broken and removed from our lives.
    Thank you Papa for the freedom, love and forgiveness you so freely pour over us, even in our disobedience!

    I have had a series of minor illnesses too. It wares me out. So, I feel ‘ya!
    Pride has shown up, wrapped in a blanket of worry. You know my worry about a situation that affects me but for which someone else controls. It is a defense mechanism and is misplaced. I will defend my rights over something trivial because some important stuff is so wrong. I turn it over to God and things settle, then it creeps back in when I am tired.

    Lynn,
    Thank you for being so open with your struggles. I struggle with this same sin and the Lord has been asking me to let go of this as well. I also struggle with wanting to keep peace in my family at all costs. I am not God and I cannot hold everything together.

    Yes! It is always sin that holds us back from victories. For me it is eating sugar, junk food and generally over-eating that God is continually asking me to surrender. I make so many excuses. My head knows that He won’t ask me to do anything without first giving me everything I need to do it, but my heart is stuck in sin with that stupid junk food. Fear is holding me back

    Over eating / not eating healthy / lazy-not walking on that tread mill that I just promised myself and my husband that I would use all the time when I bought it. God told me along time ago to lose weight for my health and I just kept putting being obedient to this “little thing” – as I viewed it – for a long time. I can no longer keep this “Our Little Secret” anymore. I just thought it’s not that big of a deal as there were so many other things that He had to change in me and will continue to change in me – anger / unforgiveness / jealousy / worry / fear etc…. I thought “So what’s wrong with some cake and ice cream with carmel topping at 10:00 pm??!! I am asking God to Anoint my obedience so I do what He wants me to do – as every area of my life I give to Him – the cake and ice cream – the compromises – must also be included. Please pray for me I really needs God’s help with this or I am going to fail miserably like a I have so many other times. Thank you and may every dream God has put in each of your hearts come to pass in His Perfect Timing. Amen.

    Wow what an encouraging post! Thank you so much Lynn for sharing your struggle with us.I know God CAN definitely heal you of this. He did for me many years ago (and it was a much bigger problem for me because I didn’t know when to stop drinking). He can remove the desire COMPLETELY for alcohol.
    For me now it also is fear, much like many others above, fear of rejection & other’s opinions. I fear that if I share my heart (with my husband) he will turn away from me, ignore me or ridicule me. Also for this reason I fear intimacy (sex) and we haven’t been close for over a year which I know isn’t right.

    Very encouraging and thank you for sharing! For years I have been struggling on and off with smoking. I do fine not smoking for about 5 years and then something happens that has me running back to it, sickness in my mom, the death of my daughter, etc. Big life issues! I would probably have to say that fear could be the biggest issue when It comes to that.

I’m praying in the name of Jesus for each of us, that we receive, accept and absorb God’s grace into our lives more than ever, and realize the sufficiency of that Grace for every battle we face.     Thank you so much for sharing, Lynn. It is so amazing when God loves us so much that He has mercy on us by revealing over and over again the very thing that displeases Him. I used to drink as well and the Lord put it on my heart to stop. That same summer that I stopped drinking, I found out that I was pregnant. It was very possible that I could’ve have been drinking not knowing I was pregnant. He wants us to be free from the things that hurt us so badly that He won’t stop until it’s out of our lives. A few weeks ago the Lord convicted me every time I got on Facebook and it seemed like every time my daughter and I were having a great time together, everything went downhill the minute I hopped on Facebook. I didn’t make the connection though and I didn’t heed His conviction. Finally, I attended a revival and the pastor said “the Lord has put a burden on my heart all day that there’s something that someone needs to give up.” Immediately I knew it was facebook and I deleted my account right away. I used to see the things I give up as a “sacrifice” but really it’s not. It’s freedom; freedom from the things that God never intended for us to deal with. It is not our obedience as much as it’s God’s mercy that He even reveals those things to us and doesn’t leave us blind to our sin and whatever is affecting our prayer life. One thing the pastor said that sticks with me is “whatever is hindering your prayer life, get rid of it. Is the person you’re praying for worth it?” For me, it’s the idea of the fear of the Lord. If we fear the Lord enough to obey Him in certain things like how we serve and what we do for Him, then we should have that same fear that motivates us to obey all of His commands, knowing that HE alone has the power to change our circumstances and transform the people in our lives. The Lord has been working that in me in regards to my lack of obedience when I don’t show my children Jesus and exhibit impatience and frustration. The Lord is so faithful to point out the ways we can become free and live full, amazing, abundant, healthy lives. Praise the Lord!

    I have been really struggling with my secret sin lately in fact, I wrote on the last post, that I was having hourly struggles…which I see is from my secret sin. My secret sin is sharing my mind with my husband (I could add his counselor to the list too and the most recent girl I found out about. Ok I guess its just keeping my lips zipped altogether!) when the difficult hurtful actions of his are revealed. God has told me it doesnt matter what he is doing but I don’t listen. When I find out about another girl or another lie I confront him and its definitely not in grace! Another secret sin is obsessive thoughts on all the things I dont know my husband has done or whats going to happen in court etc. God has told me to surrender and I say sure thank you…after I finish this thought!!! Feels good to get it out and boy do I need prayer in this area!

    May I just add 2 Tim 1:7: “He hasn’t given us a spirit of fear.”
    It does help to see fear in all its aspects for what it is – an evil spirit, that through Papa’s precious anointing we can choose to entertain or kick out (our choice).
    Let’s remember what He has given to us – a Spirit of Power, a Spirit of LOVE, and a Spirit of a Sound Mind…. Thank you Precious Precious Holy Spirit….
    And we are NOT ashamed of the wonderful Good News – that Jesus made a show of these things openly triumphing over them, for us, on the cross. Yeaaah!

    Praying for you Deborah. I know how hurtful their actions make us feel, and how emotional we get with every tidbit of information. I would also just want to let everyone know how awful he was and what he was doing to me!
    But I also know that none of those reactions benefit me. So now I go to Abba first, Sometimes like a little girl on a temper tantrum, because it feels so unfair. But I’m reminded that the battle is not with my husband it is with the enemy. Wanting to steal, kill and destroy my husband. And that God IS working on the other side of the mountain.

    I’m realizing that my secret sin is believing the enemy’s lies about me…that I’m not living in God’s will, that I’m not doing enough for His Kingdom, that I’m not praying enough or praying correctly…that the outcome of life’s many trial depends on what I do or don’t do…on what I believe and hope for or fail to believe and hope for. I’m reading a book on prayer by Phillip Yancey, and it’s opening my eyes and heart to the power of prayer and more so, the power of our advocate, Jesus.
    I need to learn and believe how God sees me, and trust in that alone. I do believe that when that becomes deep seeded in my heart and soul, only then will I see prayers answered.
    Can anyone relate?
    I also need to stop complaining and criticizing others, and keep my eyes on all my many blessings and on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith.

    Amen! God’s love for us is based on Him being love (1 John 4:8), not on our being lovable. God loves you and His love for you will never change because of anything you do, for His nature of love is unchangeable. That is the almost-too-good-to-be-true news of the gospel. Most people think that they have to do something to earn God’s favor. It is commonly preached that God withdraws from us when we do wrong and draws closer as we do better. That is just another way of saying that He gives us what we deserve. Of course, none of us really deserve anything from the Lord, so there must be a little bit of grace mixed with our performance to make this palatable to the masses. In Romans, Paul makes it clear that this theory doesn’t wash. Romans 11:6 says that it’s either all grace or all works, but not a mixture of the two. We are either acceptable to God based on what we do or on what our Lord Jesus Christ did for us – not a combination of the two.
    The Gospel that is too often presented today, actually drives people away from the Lord. Instead of telling people what the Lord has done for them, people preach about what we must do for the Lord. Many people are told that God’s acceptance and favor are conditional, based on them measuring up to His standard. This is not the truth. God’s true nature and love have not been accurately represented. The only thing that God requires of us is faith in the atoning work of Jesus Christ. This is the radical truth that evokes such a response of love from us that the rest of the Christian life is nothing but a response to what Christ has done for us, not an effort to get Christ to respond to us. Praise the Lord!
    Paul starts his letter to the Ephesians with a prayer that they would receive wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of what they have in Christ. We have already been given everything in Christ. Why should we try and work for something that we already have? That doesn’t make sense. It’s just a matter of believing and receiving, not working and earning.
    In the book of Colossians, Paul reminds the believers in Colosse that they have already been made worthy to partake of the inheritance Christ bought for them. They’ve already been placed in Christ’s kingdom and are heirs to all His benefits. Understanding this is the foundation of faith. All the deception that the enemy uses against us violates this fundamental principle. Understanding our completeness in Christ as a total work of grace voids the power of the devil. The only real power the devil ever had against us was our sins. They have been dealt with through the atoning work of Christ.
    We are already seated in heavenly places in Christ Jesus. We aren’t headed toward victory. We are coming from a victory – Christ’s total victory over the devil. Colossians is a powerful book that describes victorious Christian living.

    Thank you for sharing so openly. During my quiet time this morning I specifically asked God why I have not seen any movement or breakthrough in the restoration of my marriage. The thought that came to me was “because of unconfessed sin”. I immediately asked for forgiveness, as well as asking for understanding and insight into what sin He is waiting for me to confess. (still waiting for the specifics, and I know He won’t disappoint)
    I am constantly amazed how God so lovingly and patiently reveals to us everything that He wants us to see and know exactly in His timing (which is always perfect).

    Lynn, Thank you for your message. It hit home. My secret sin is having sex with my husband. We’ve been separated for 8 months and he is pursuing divorce and dating another woman, but still contacts me for sex. In the past few months I have felt God tell me to disconnect and release my prodigal husband to Him. I have disobeyed God. I’ve been fearful and not trusting the Lord. So I guess I have two other secret sins – fear and distrust. I’m so afraid to let go and let God because I don’t want to be disappointed. I’m being honest. My husband has been using me and playing with my emotions. I’ve been in a downward emotional spiral in a deep depression. I’ve been praying for healing and restoration. And I’ve been angry at God for not answering my prayers. Your message hit home. Is my disobedience is preventing me from having my prayers answered? Please pray for me to completely trust the Lord and the next time my husband tries to manipulate me to be intimate with him I would denounce fear and guilt and decline until he repents and makes steps towards reconciliation. I want to experience God’s power and glory.

    A million aplaudes!!! It takes alot to be so candid especially in a public arena! I often wonder how you and Neen do it. Caring and praying for so many. After all you are real people with real struggles, just like the rest of us. I know there is great freedom in just the mere verbal release of a struggle. I felt that release some years back with the gambling addiction I had. Getting it out in the open elviated a ton of pressure, and the healing began (your struggle I realize isn’t at all an addiction in the way that mine was). Who knows where I would have been today? Probably jail. But today I can say I am healed from gambling and the lying that went with it. I need to add my admitting I had an addiction came the HARD way, not voluntarily. I was caught deep in my addiction by my husband ??. I just say this, because it was a extremely brutal and lonely time for me. I highly recomend being forth coming, than the way I went about it. With that being said, however a secret sin(addiction) comes out, there is always release, and freedom. As a bonus in my case, I had delt with EXTREME anxiety for years, and when the gambiling was added to that mixture
    with my lies to cover that up……well the anxiety became lethal. I am happy to say the day this prodigal girl COMPLETELY SURRENDERED the gambling, lying, well I didn’t know it then, but thats when bit by bit my anxiety went away. I give all the glory to God, a mighty patient God??

    I am so glad you shared. It’s tough to admit something like that not only to yourself, but to a huge group of people. My current struggle that just came to mind as I was reading this is holding a grudge against a specific person that I’ve been dealing with for years. I am struggling with loving this person and quite honestly, I keep looking for a way for this person to fail. I don’t like that about me, but it’s real. My dislike for this person is quite obvious when I am in the same room. I’m so transparent that it makes all of this suck and I’m ready to just stop. It’s hard because this person constantly says one thing and does another and quite honestly it’s exhausting keeping up with the crap that comes from the mouth. I try to be polite and not call said person out every time there is a conversation. It’s funny, this person is well liked by many and I struggle because can nobody see through the facade? Again, I don’t even like what I just posted. Yuck.

    Brenda – I was once married to a man who did nothing but use me – I had no self respect. I use to “let” people treat me badly as I thought so little of myself. God has done a lot in my life regarding my self image and self worth. I am worthy of being respected and loved and so are you. I have been remarried for many years now and although my marriage is not ideal I trust God to what He has promised me. When we go against God’s Will for us and we do what we want in the flesh we are destined to be sad depressed and miserable. Trusting God is not always easy but He will never ever fail you even when it may seem as though every thing around you is wrong – believe/know God is working in your life. We must live in God’s alignment “…On earth as it is in Heaven”. He has your life all planned out just trust Him. This man is using and exploiting you-know that when you do stand against this temptation that your husband will try to manipulate you even more to being with him again. If it is God’s Will for you to be with this man trust God that He will make that happen-but if not – allow God to lead you to the life and spouse He has picked out for you. I will be praying for you-be strong in God!

    Hi Lynn mine has been lack of trust in God, and when I realised this I realised that it has affected so many areas of my life, even to the point of saying my husband doesnt trust me when in reality I dont trust God enough to trust Him in all areas of my life – even the marriage I asked Him for – to a good, strong (to handle my stubborness), loyal honest man. It has taken me 18 years of disobedience and “why God, why won’t you do something?”. Last year God started to deal with me about my disobedience in so many areas and you know the one thing I held onto was the fact that in His word He says alot that when darkness is revealed in the Light of His goodness and mercy and grace (His empowering presence) it cannot remain – it has been revealed and therefore is no longer secret – Eph 5:8, 1 John 2:9, 1Thess 5:4 and there’s plenty more (look up darkness). So this year my word is trust (I think it was last year too, lol) and obey. I can see so much change in my marriage, even in the last 3 months, that as I trust God He is turning things around 360 degrees – we are talking, we are laughing, we can resolve issues or agree to disagree without the level of pain there always seemed to be before. Yet it has only come about through my obedience to press into knowing my Lord Jesus and my Father God more intimately, my desire for His presence has deepened so much and I have had to own my own faith, walk out my salvation with fear and trembling, and I realise the more I know Him, the less I know Him. Love you guys so much – this whole community is so precious to God.

    Wow-Could you have stepped on my toes any further with this? I’m currently reading this as I can’t sleep b/c I’m battling sickness from disobedience myself.
    I know this door of poor health has been left “unlocked” for some time by my ignoring of Gods direction to completely give up alcohol, exercise and have a healthy diet: none of which I have done. But the door of poor health was flung open by a temptation that I thought had died out upon my Christian conversion-marijuana. Unknown to me some was left here by a family member and I happened upon it. After arguing with myself I succumbed and got high for two days running.
    Just admitting this is shameful but I know He wants me to shed this from my shoulders.
    I despise this feeling of distance I have caused by my rebellious choice. I totally understand what Paul means when he speaks of the sin principle. Thank our Great Creator that He us merciful, patient and forgiving!
    I am now committing (though I know I will err again) to not only shut and lock this door I’ve left cracked for the enemy but I’m going to seal it shut and wall over it! Today is the day of salvation!

    Thanks Lyn for your transparency… this will help may of us to call things as they are (sin that is)…Most of the time we want to blame things on the enemy when he really is not the problem. We need to take a close look at our lives and ask God to show us if there is something we need to see and fix in our lives. Jesus conquered Satan at the cross so our only real fight is the fight of faith. And as we know Faith without works is dead. So let’s go after what God has already gave us through His son Jesus and walk by faith (not by sight and/or in fear). We simply need to pray and ask the Holy Spirit to help us change our belief systems so they line up with the Word so we can receive HIS promises in HIS timing and HIS way (that thing called TRUST).

    Hi Lynn!!
    You are very brave to put this out there. I think drinking wine has been the new trend for many people, myself included. I was having a glass of wine a night usually after dinner, but I felt something drawing me to stop. I had stopped drinking the occasional glass for a couple of months, but then purchased a bottle of pink moscato rencently. I didn’t enjoy it like I had in the past. I’m not an abuser of alcohol either, but like you I felt I wanted to keep my body healthy and drinking the occasional glass of wine was not helping me. I’m overweight and trying to lose weight and just eat right; drinking wine tends to have the opposite affect that I want. I also found that my moods would be off and I would be unhappy and grouchy.

    Oh Deborah… I’m heartbroken for you. But my friend I have read this comment three times and my soul is not convicted that you should remain silent. It’s a biblical sin and absolutely against everything that is of God, that your husband is having an affair with another woman.
    It is my heart’s desire that you no longer live in this kind of emotional abuse. And if I overstepped my bounds by saying so please forgive me. But I ask that you would humbly consider speaking to someone, a pastor, someone from your church, a Christian counselor to help you navigate through this difficult season in your life.
    Oh Jesus, wrap your arms of love around my sister. Give her great wisdom and give her your voice when it comes to standing up to devastating actions by her husband.     Persevere my friend. Press deeply into God’s word. I release Ephesians 2 over you. You are seated in heavenly realms with Christ. And now you can see your husband through the eyes of Jesus.
    Lord Jesus I ask right now for supernatural anointing of love to come pouring out of Denise for her husband. That it would be so strong that not one other married couple will ever come between them. Not one other man or fantasy of a man will ever come between them. Ever again. Amen
