These are so powerful and anointed, I'm sure. And I don't you to miss the chance to listen to them (not sure how long the links will be available).

There are two of them and I recommend you listen to them both. If you find you can only do one, then listen to part two. Kris outlines five areas of successful living in the kingdom:

  1. Be present
  2. Be thankful
  3. Have a big YES!
  4. Persevere
  5. Be humble

I found myself deeply convicted by the first one, about being present. I am definitely guilty of this one and am now commited to following the Holy Spirit's leading to change this. I learned to live in the moment through my daughter's cancer ordeal, but in the last year or so, I lost sight of this. Makes me think of Matthew 6:34:

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

But it's so much more than worry. It's also about not missing out on what's right in front of you, including diving appointments. You'll understand more as you listen.

At the end, Kris gives a list of signs of humility. I typed them out and will keep them in my journal, because I know have several to work on. Here's that list:

13 Signs That You're Humble

  1. You know who you are without requiring others to acknowledge your identity.
  2. You allow others to get credit for things that should be attributed to you.
  3. You take a lower seat than you deserve.
  4. You refuse to promote yourself.
  5. You allow others to share their accomplishments without sharing yours especially when yours are greater.
  6. You have an attitude that no task is beneath you.
  7. You’re honest about your weaknesses.
  8. You admit your mistakes.
  9. You live below your means.
  10. You work to promote others.
  11. You’re teachable.
  12. You’re correctable.
  13. You’re influencable.

And I love this line that he shares: "Adversity may be the mother of invention, but humility if the father of promotion."

Such profound teaching in these two sermons, dear friends. I pray they bless you greatly, encourage you deeply, and challenge you to move and grow in your faith. That is God's loving heart for all of us.

    I listened to this. Humility is a hard area for me. As someone who was bullied and because of my childhood, it is difficult for me; I often get stuck in the ‘ok, I am nothing and nobody, I don’t matter….and according to the bible, I need to stay that way.’ Where is the balance between I am a child of the King and humility? How do you be humble in all the way Kris describes, but not think of yourself as nothing?

    I totally understand what you’re saying, Lynette, and this is what I’m learning. Pride seems to come from insecurity or entitlment. But when we are secure in who we are as a child of God and know we are loved without qualification, we no longer have to prove our ourselves or our worth. Pride keeps us focused on ourselves. Humility actually comes from thinking of ourselves less, not diminishing ourselves and putting ourselves down. It’s hard to put in words but when we rest in the security we have in God’s love, we actually think of ourselves less, NOT think less OF ourselves, just think less, worry less because we are secure and trust God for everything. It’s contrary to human thinking but humility comes more and more as we grow more secure in our place with God and realizing He does it all through such great love for us.

    Lynette, your last question triggered a response from me, and I am a dedicated lurker! I think the answer lies in a quiet confidence in seeing and knowing how the Father sees you and not having the compulsion to self promote. Sometimes, it takes repeating scripture to remind yourself of His view of you. It is what I try to do when I feel overwhelmed with the need to speak up. Being able to do the thirteen signs are like a gift of love you give to individuals. Not because they deserve them, but because of the outflow of God’s love through you. It is not always easy. I don’t always get it right, for sure. I guess it comes down to the fact that because you are SOMETHING (wonderfully made through the Cross), you do not have to defend an unconfident stance of proving your worth to the public. (This does not include physical and other kinds of abuse.) And, it is not something that happens overnight. It becomes a growth process along the path in your walk with Jesus. I pray that all that makes sense, and please feel free to correct or clarify my thoughts. God bless.

    Thanks Dineen. This is an area I am still trying to get a breakthrough on. Lots of unlearning still going on for me. I could write for hours about this, but I don’t want to hijack the comments.

    Thanks Angela. My struggle comes from a long line of “God doesn’t care about what you want…you are a worthless sinner…you are doing something wrong/sinning if your prayers aren’t answered, etc etc.” Mind you, all this coming from church. Honestly, I have felt more self loathing and condemnation from people in the church than any other place. Hence, my confusion. It is hard to find the truth when on one hand you are told God loves you so much he died for you, on the other you are nothing but a worthless sinner; if I am worthless, why did He die for me? To me, it sounds like a contradiction.

    You are on the right path Lynette. Unlearning. MAJOR. It’s a whole different MINDSET that is required for breakthroughs.

    It is, Lynette! Remember the post I wrote about sinner vs. new creation? No wonder we’re so confused and struggling to believe God loves us. THe enemy works in our churches too. And it IS a process as Angela shared. God will help you shed the lies and false identities. His heart is always for you and for you to know Him in truth and love. Be patient and don’t be hard on yourself. God will do this for you. 🙂

    I am seeking new teachers because there is FAST GROWTH to be had in listening to more than just your favourites! The “buffet” gets LARGER and instead of getting fat…you get STRONGER!!!!!! 😉

    Hmmm. Some of these characteristics come naturally to me. Some call for more work! I can be corrected, if I view the source as skilled or at least having my best intention at heart. It is hard to listen to feedback I don’t find credible. I should just say “Thanks” and let it go. I can get caught up in whether it is true. I have justified this as if I am some sort of caped defender of truth, justice, and the American way. I am not. And it doesn’t generally help to prove the facts. I also need to let people enjoy their accomplishments without sharing a similar experience.
    This is a good list!
