SUMButton Spiritually Unequal Marriage is fast approaching the end of our third year. I bet Lynn is shaking her head in disbelief right now. I went back through the posts to see the very first one! Hee hee…May 1st.

Personally, I can't believe it's been almost two years since I joined in the "fun" here at SUM. Wow! Thank you, Lynn! This ministry has meant to world to me-to us both. To be able to offer comfort, encouragement, and hope…and to have received it as well…

Okay, okay, before I get all mushy, or you think I'm leaving or something, I have an idea. I'm proposing a bit of an open forum today. If you have a question or a subject that you want to see addressed or want to explore further, leave it in the comments. Lynn and I will pray over each one and do our best to share our wisdom, give direction, or even just offer our prayers.

Come on now, don't be shy. We want to know what you're thinking about, struggling with, worrying over, and wondering about. And being in a spiritually mismatched marriage isn't easy. This blog is here to serve, and what better way than for us to ask you, our precious readers, what you need answers about. We'll do our best, and God will do the rest.

He's really good at that, you know?

    WOW – happy anniversary, ladies! Thank you for the wonderful resource and support you are offering us. I really count it as an answer to prayer that I came across this blog through Thankful Thursday this year.
    Since I am a newer reader and have basically just picked up where you were when I found you, do you have suggestions for books that might be available at the library on SUMs? Because I’m LDS, I’d really prefer something that isn’t too denominationally focused – titles that are more “general” Christian, that focus on Scripture and personal stories, rather than a certain church’s doctrine?
    I know that there might already be things like this listed in your archives, so feel free to just tell me what posts to go to and I’ll find ’em. I know how busy you must be!

    I would love to hear how you handle giving (financially) in a SUM. I don’t think it would be accurate to say that my husband is an unbeliever exactly, but he is less inclined than I am to dedicate this life to living for God. The biggest struggle we have is regarding tithing and offerings- he generally feels that the 10% is an arbitrary number that has no bearing on modern life. Any thoughts on how to handle this is greatly appreciated!

    I would love to hear about the growth/changes in your family each of you have seen since your time of starting here. Even though it may not yet be where you hope, what differences have you experienced over time?
    Happy Anniversary! Love to both of you incredible sisters! You both are such a joy and encouragement by sharing your personal insights and lives with us! By being transparent you help many women (including me) feel comfortable admitting we are not perfect, godly women! But we do love Jesus!!! We are just works in progress.

    We all want to reflect Christ in our lives in such a way that helps to point others (especially our spouses!) towards HIM. Challenge me to become more Christ-like that I may be like a lovely fragrance named love, joy, peace, patience, gentleness, kindness, goodness, faithfulness and self-control…. My husband loves those fragrances.. :), but sometimes I don’t smell too pretty…

    Yes you guys are great. What a much needed website! Would you guys share any feelings of guilt talking about your husbands or just with holding information. Because he is the source of much sadness for me and because he doesn’t get it I feel like I can’t share certain things when it relates to my faith. He lately has been teasing -“I didn’t know I was marrying a nun.” So I of course hold back experiences and events, but I feel almost like I’m hiding a part of me to him.

    Lynn, after speaking on the conference call with all of you last night I obtained your blog address from Marsha to come over and visit your blog and get to know you a bit better.
    Congratulations to you and Dineen in the anniversary of your blog. I’m sure you both have blessed a lot of people by God’s grace and for His glory.
    19 years ago when I married I was a very weak Christian emotionally and spiritually particularly from my childhood being abused and I married an unsaved man. He was not opposed to God but did not know of him. At the time I thought, “doesn’t everyone know about God?” Within 2 years the LORD completely turned my heart and life around and I came out of being a weak Christian to growing and developing in my walk with GOD and the journey to pray for my husband salvation and walk as a follower of Christ before him and love him in Christ began and that went on for another 7 years and in 1998 he gave his life to Christ and has been walking humbly and powerfuly with HIM since. Our entire lives changed.
    I shared that testimony because we know the walk albeit everyones is different but we pray for couples who are not saved or unequally yoked as much as we pray for those who are saved. All marriages need much prayer.
    So without knowing you or the work God has placed before you; I know you obviously have a heart for people and so I pray God’s continued favor and blessings over you both as you continue to HEAR HIM and serve others in His name.
    Now I’ll look around a bit 🙂 Bless you and congratulations again!

    I would like to thank you both for SUM. However, I am not in a marriage that is spiritually unequal, but I read your blog because I think many of the points you make are relevant to any marriage. I also enjoy your stories and am also looking forward to the news that your spouses are walking hand in hand with the Lord.

    Hi, I just found you, and I added you to my favorites. I feel so lost and so alone. I get overwhelmed when I see loving Christian Couples, and it almost makes me resent my husband. I have four young children and I can only it seems make it to Sunday school let alone church. I don’t know how to deal with my a) chritian desire for friendship and fellowship in a unequal house (even having friends over is hard), b) my feelings when I see a “christian family”, and c) the the lonliness. The true spirital bonding lack thereof.
    Of all the things in the Bible I also think the only thing God gave us was the verse in Peter regarding quietness and submission they may be won over.
    Yet, I just don’t seem like I’m that godly example around Him.
    Thanks for the blog, it is my life saver to know i’m not alone.
