1 Corinthians 7:14 (The Message)
12-14For the rest of you who are in mixed marriages-Christian married to non-Christian-we have no explicit command from the Master. So this is what you must do. If you are a man with a wife who is not a believer but who still wants to live with you, hold on to her. If you are a woman with a husband who is not a believer but he wants to live with you, hold on to him. The unbelieving husband shares to an extent in the holiness of his wife, and the unbelieving wife is likewise touched by the holiness of her husband. Otherwise, your children would be left out; as it is, they also are included in the spiritual purposes of God. 

Couplehands I find this scripture brings me great comfort. The translation from The Message seems to help me get my mind around what the Lord is working out in our marriages. We often underestimate our power and purpose in our spiritually mismatch marriages. As the believer, God is alive and well and working in us and through us to influence the lives of our husband and children. 

Our marriage is brought under the Sovereign  Hand of our Lord. We make our marriage Holy.
Let this scripture empower you today. We are meant to be a threat to the devil so put him on notice that this week your marriage will stand under the banner of the Most High.

    and if your husband no longer wants you because your christian ? He sends you away , but refuses to grand a divorce. What happens then , you live in limbo at the will of a non christian who would stop at nothing to control you even after he sent you away
    Not trying to be mean at all but asking.
    These situations are relevant to me

    Hi Adair,
    I am heart broken over your situation and I
    absolutely feel your pain. I want you to know that
    tomorrow I will be in our church office and I will
    ask our counselors what is a Godly path to take in
    your most unusual situation. My immediate thought
    is that there is something more to your husband's
    controlling issue. I would seek out Christian
    counseling to make sure I am following the will of
    the Lord. I would also pray and fast asking the
    Lord about your marriage and the fact that you
    have been sent away.
    If your husband has been unfaithful you indeed can
    seek divorce. But, I know as in most situations
    our marriages and relationships are extremely
    complex and yours is, with out a doubt. I would
    seek wise and Godly counsel.
    What I also know is that no matter where you are,
    Dineen and I will pray for your protection and for
    Godly wisdom over you as well. We care deeply
    about every woman and man who visits here and we
    absolutely do pray, with a compassion and hope for
    you and others…
    So, you can count on us to hold you before the
    mercy seat and you can expect the Lord to see you
    and your situation and He will help you move
    forward, whatever that is in His good and perfect
    will for you.
    I wish I could reach through the computer and hold
    you. I pray you can feel my love flowing to your

    I love this translation of it. Especially how it encompasses the whole family. We hold a very special place in the lives of our unbelieving spouses and our children. It’s a big calling but God equips us with everything we need. Doesn’t mean it’s easy, but it is a noble cause. 🙂

    This is not the translation I normally read, but seeing it this way is very helpful. For me it is most important of a reminder that this my faith may well be the only “coverage” for my entire family – my children as well as my spouse. In the case of one of my children, my husband steps back and says “I am a step-parent, I can’t stop you from taking [that child] to a church.” But in the case of his child, he can and does. Sometimes that seems like such a burden – to know that my actions are the only faith and beliefs my child sees, but in this light, it is a reminder that it’s more of a blessing. After all, it would be much more horrible to know that even my mustard seed of faith wasn’t enough.

    A side bar if I may: Comments from an interfaith rabbi, about Chelsea Clinton, intermarriage with a man of the Jewish faith. “They will be married in the family of God.”
    I married a catholic woman, who converted and now follows Jesus, however her family gives us grief over her choices still. To Adair I will pray about your situation and indeed get Godly council.

    That is the scripture I hold most dear to keep me going when at times my flesh wants to split from the unequal partnership… But then I am reminded of that exact verse
