Catch the vision in Ephesians. God wants to make things right.

Ephesians 6:14b…..with the breastplate of righteousness in place……

Sometimes “church” words are funny to me. What is righteousness? 1. Morally upright; without guilt or sin: 2. In accordance with virtue or morality:

Simply it means to live right. The breastplate of righteousness allows us to move in this world, to set things right, yet be protected. We are protected from the flaming arrows of the enemy. Without the breastplate we are exposed.

It is a moral decision. A desire to do what is right. So here is where the rubber meets the road as I like to say. Make it real. Our unbelieving spouse chooses to watch something on television that you know would offend Jesus if He was in the room with you. Honey says, “please come sit with me and let me hold you.”

How do we handle this?

    How thought provoking, well lets just say my husband knows me well enough now that he knows there are certain things I just cant sit through especially movies that are high in the potty mouth area. Normally if its a movie we both rent together then we both will sit and watch it, if its a move we each picked out then we both exercise the right to either sit together and watch or not.

    My husband knows that I will not watch nudity, or offensive language. So, he watches television alone when he chooses to watch that.

    Thankfully, this isn’t an area of contention anymore. My hubby respects my choice not to watch something with him. Usually they’re shows like Family Guy or politically slanted shows that tend to be a bit too liberal for my taste. And thankfully, he doesn’t like to watch violent shows. Anything to close to real life, he has little interest in. He’s an enigma! 🙂

    You know this is a hard one really but even though you are one you are suppose to win the unbeliever over by your actions while being submissive. How does that go together? I used to just say that I love him but I feel uncomfortable watching what he is watching but would love to cuddle. Would it be possible to watch something else? I would just try to live the best I could above reproach but without making myself seem better or condemning and just give my husband over to God again. 🙂 I think above all we have to submit to the higher authority which is God but in a loving way toward our spouse.

    I usually read my book while he watches, but remain in the same room. And…on occasion, I watch, and then we have an open forum for discussion. And…on occasion, I sin, and watch, too.

    Great question! Even believing spouses occasionally watch things we would find offensive as wives. Sometimes it’s a matter of maturity, or back-sliding, or his everyday flesh rearing up.
    Since by now (LOL, 30 years) my husband knows my viewing preferences very well, I would accept his invitation to cuddle. I’m certain that as I showed obvious pleasure in that gesture, he would want to increase my happiness even more by changing the channel to something uplifting and pleasurable for both of us.
    He’s learned the secret. The happier I am, the better off we BOTH are. He works very hard to please me, because when I’m smiling he feels like a hero… and that’s what he’s really after.
