On this bright and crisp Monday morning where it is colder
here in Temecula (So California) than Chicago, I WELCOME YOU. I also welcome
the FBI who likely will be reading this series because their computers have
just detected a blog using the words “Terrorist Training Camp.” Hi Guys!!! 

Yep, that’s us. 

Spiritual Warfare 2013For the next few weeks, as long as God leads, we are jumping
into some serious warfare training. I am so tired of the devil and his minions
terrorizing the children of God. Fed Up! 

It’s time for the children of God to take back their authority
and it’s our time to be doing the terrorizing. 

We, the believers, are NOT going to live in fear of the
enemy. God’s word is filled, filled -I tell you, with every good word and truth
to expose the enemy, to release us from fear, give us deliverance, and power
over the accuser. So it’s time to reveal the lies and render the enemy of our
soul powerless and send him running for cover. And by that I mean it’s time to
cast this ugly dragon back into the pit of hell. 

Are you with me?? 

A few things before we get started. I know that there are
seasons in our faith life. Seasons when we are up for the battles and also when
we are at peace. There are seasons when we are bruised and weak. I know there
are times when we aren’t feeling the warrior instinct, I get it. So, if you are
not exactly in this season where you are all-fired up to fight the beast, I
understand. I know that you likely need a word of empathy and compassion and
that you need someone who understands to just hold you while you cry. I
understand. 

I can promise you that we will be writing about our brokenness
and healing of our hearts in the future as well. So, hang tight and read along
with us. Because one day, you WILL, be up for the fight and I want you to have
the knowledge and the power to fight for your soul, your children and your
marriage. I want you to have courage and not fear the enemy. Please hear me
now, I love you and I will fight for you when you are weak. And one day when I’m
weak, you will be there to fight for me. I love you with such a furious love
that God is moved to touch your brokenness. Write me and let me know how to

Okay, onward my warrior friends. ONWARD… (I can hear that old
hymn, Onward Christian Soldiers….) Yikes, dating myself. 

Here are some areas we are going to cover in the next few
weeks: Isaiah 61.1, Kingdom authority, fear, agreement with the lies, names of
spirits, generation curses, rules of engagement…. And this is just some of the
things I want to talk about. 

For the first time in a very long time I read a book about
warfare that actually gave me real tools to deal with the spiritual realm. I
recommend that if you want to really understand more on the invisible battle,
you buy this book, Spirit Wars, by Kris Vallotton. Kris is a senior pastor at
Bethel church. 

I will be sharing some of Kris’s insights as well as my own
study and experiences throughout this series. You can find a link to the book in
the sidebar and at the end of this post. 

So let’s get started. 

What I think I need to share with you first is that the
subject matter of the invisible spiritual realm is difficult to tackle. It’s
difficult because so many Christians don’t really believe it exists. I know I’ve
mentioned some supernatural incidents to church leadership at my home church
and I received, in a very polite way, the proverbial eye-roll. So, it makes it
all the more difficult to write about and to help people. When people have an
unexplainable/supernatural experience they often go to their church leadership
who will send them to a psychiatrist because they just don’t believe what the
Bible tells them. 

So I ask you to travel this path with me with your Bible
WIDE OPEN. We will study encounter after encounter where Jesus deals with the
realm of the supernatural. Why would we expect anything different in a believer’s
life than what Jesus has modeled for us? So, step with me into understanding,
read your Bible for yourself, read commentary of trusted writers on the
subject. Because when we finally start believing ALL the Bible teaches us in
this area, THAT is when we start to see things change in our lives. THAT is when
we will gain the victories, healing and wholeness. THAT is when we will finally
arrive at peace, joy and thriving. And then we can begin to help our children,
our spouse and others. 

The natural world and the supernatural overlap. And that is
where it can get weird. 

Today, I want to share two scriptures. Isaiah 61:1 

The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me,
   because the Lord
has anointed me
   to preach good
news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
   to proclaim
freedom for the captives
   and release from
darkness for the prisoners. 

This passage says so much more when we really think about
it. We are called as believers to proclaim freedom for the captives and release
from the darkness the prisoners. But, how do we know who is a captive and who
is a prisoner??? Ahhhhh, now that is a fantastic question. And there is a
difference between the two.

My friends, I’ve probably lost all of you since this post
has gone on way too long. On Friday, we are going to discover the difference
between a captive and a prisoner and let me tell you this, Christians can be
one of them. We are going to explore with courage these questions, reveal truth
and decimate the lies of the enemy. 

Today, all this week, if you don’t do anything else,
memorize the scripture below. It is imperative that we have this truth firmly
in our hearts and minds. 

Romans 8:37-39

In all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him
who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor
principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height,
nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the
love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. 

This is our truth. This is our power and we must know this
in our bones.

    I love how you have covered the basis before getting started with this study – -starting with the FBI. That is so funny! I do believe there are seasons of our life when the battle is not so intense, and we are in a peaceful time period. I have fought some hard battles, and feel at peace at the present time, though I sometimes grow weary in waiting. Nonetheless, I don’t want to let my guard down for a moment. So, I am looking forward to learning more in this study and staying on top of things.

    Thank you for the link to your previous post. I’ve had a few experiences with evil “spirits” if you will, and know that they fight for my husband, family & friends and they use to fight for me.
    It’s been a tough start to the year in our small town….a brutal murder, a 10 year old hit and killed 2 days later…all this after friends have lost loved ones unexpectactly & after the Newtown tragedy….sometimes it feels like evil is taking a foot hold….but my daughter reminded me “Jesus wins.” God reminds me to keep my focus on him…when the battle for my husband seems so daunting, I’m reminded to keep my focus on Jesus. Yesterday we discussed 1 John 2 at church..we talked about anointing & remaining in him. Then today I read your post & again, “anointing” 🙂

    GOOSEBUMPS LYNN! PERFECT TIMING for me. My senses are so heightened to this very realm since new year’s eve. To give my family here a bit of perspective on how the enemy works, we JUST had a dinner date with good Christian friends and what topic does everyone get on? Torturing animals!? THEE VERY THING Satan uses to break my heart, take control of my thoughts, pull me down. At first I didn’t think too much of it because it was supposed to be in a joking manner towards their pet cat and “what he would be good for.” I’m just going to leave it at that. BUT when a pelt of a dead animal was brought up to the kitchen table and swung in front of my face??? THEN I recognized WHOM also was at this table!!! UNBELIEVABLE! Evil is everywhere friends. This Christian walk is not easy BUT it does get easier to acknowledge the enemy in your midst when your relationship with Jesus grows stronger. CALLING IAN! We need your name to click on here! You will be a HUGE support with your experiences! Lynn! LOVE the memorization challenge! Praying for everyone now on my knees for God’s power and protection in this week! SUIT UP! <><

    I am SO looking forward to this series! God opened my eyes about this topic a couple years ago when I went through a crazy INTENSE period of spiritual warfare, followed by amazing blessings from God. Most people, Christians included, definitely would not believe me if I told them what happened.
    I am interested in generation curses, names of spirits and truly how to stay strong and take the name and authority of Jesus to bind the enemy.

    It does help that I just finished Dineen’s book, Soul Saver. Her book gave me a fresh, new perspective on just how real this battle is, and primed my soul. Like it or not, there is a raging war between good and evil in every facet of our lives. I’m in, Lynn. Let’s enter this war together as both sisters of and warriors for Christ.

    Thank you so much for prepping us all for this study with the “Supernatural” book last week! It’s all making sense! As you know, I am in what could be the final days of my marriage to a man who claims to be a Christian, yet who clearly is not filled with the Spirit and is held “captive” by the enemy. God promised me last week to save my marriage, and give me rest by giving me a relationship where I can relinquish my role as spiritual leader of my family. Now, I don’t claim to know what how all this works or looks like in the future…only God knows for sure. But I am trusting Him and believing Him, and keeping the armor on!
    One note, while reading my Bible this morning, these verses popped out at me…
    Romans 9: 15 For he says to Moses, “I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.”[f]
    16 It does not, therefore, depend on human desire or effort, but on God’s mercy. 17 For Scripture says to Pharaoh: “I raised you up for this very purpose, that I might display my power in you and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth.”[g] 18 Therefore God has mercy on whom he wants to have mercy, and he hardens whom he wants to harden.
    I’ve prayed every day for my husband’s salvation, for his redemption, for his deliverance, for his reconciliation to God and to me. However, I have never specifically prayed asking God to grant my husband MERCY…even if my husband has rejected God’s mercy in the past.
    Praying for all the warriors out there. This ministry is such a blessing to each and every one of us! Sending love to all!

    Okay…I am really not trying to stir the pot here, I’m just going to relay my experience. I believe in spiritual warfare. I do, but early in my faith, I attended a church that had a similar line of thinking that you are posting about. Naming spirits, etc. They basically saw a demon behind everything bad. And if you weren’t having victory you either A. didn’t have enough faith B. weren’t praying hard enough or C. had some sin in your life. I attended this church for five years and in the end it almost destroyed my faith. I will follow along with you to see hwere this goes because like I said I do believe in spiritual warfare. But I don’t believe every single thing out there is influenced by an evil spirit. There is still free will, which is a gift from God and people will choose good or evil. My husband has the choice, I can pray, fast, etc but ultimately it is his choice to follow God. I apologize if this makes anyone upset…but I am hesitant about these kinds of things.

    Lynette,
    You are right to be hesitant and to search the Word for yourself. And I
    don't pretend to be an authority over this area. However, I am learning and
    I just know there are believers who will find freedom if they simply believe
    what the Bible teaches, reject the lies of the enemy and take back their
    authority that Jesus gave them. I pray with fervor that I am directly in the
    middle of God's will and His heart in this series. And I KNOW I'm not going
    to take that approach that if there isn't change it's our fault or we don't
    have enough faith. That is bull…. bologna *grin*. Love you girl and I

    Lynn, I also wanted to tell you that I have physically felt the presence of the enemy, usually at night, in my sleep. You won’t see any eye-rolling here, because I KNOW it’s real. I think I am attacked while I sleep because it’s the only time the enemy can attack, because during the day I can consciously rebuke both him and his minions. I fully expect an all-out attack tonight, having signed on for this battle. I am not afraid, though. I have Jesus, and in Him, the battle is already won.
    To some, this may sound crazy, but I’m willing to go out on a limb for Jesus. I know that I have awakened to my bed shaking more than once and, more recently, awoke to what I thought was hissing in my ear, and a clear image of a gargoyle-like being next to my head, not sitting or standing on the floor, but more flying or floating. When I became conscious enough, I prayed out loud, “In the name of Jesus, I rebuke you!” and meant it from the core of my being. I can’t explain it Lynn, but immediately my heart rate slowed, I stopped the violent shaking I was experiencing, and was at peace. I mean IMMEDIATELY.
    I lay there for a few minutes, taking all of that in: an attack in my sleep, audible hissing in my ear, a visual demon, a verbal rebuke in the name of our Lord, and immediate peace. Spiritual warefare is real, and my sisters, be warned: the closer you draw to Jesus, the more you will be attacked. That is why we need to equip ourselves and learn how to fight this battle.

    I am in 🙂 and will follow along…My battle has taken a different twist as you know, but it’s all good:-) God has been doing amazing things and like you said in your email a few months back, I will find happiness again, but different from what I had thought. I am very excited about how God has delivered me and what He has showed me about my future…All praise and glory goes to Him!

    My friend I will affirm to you that I have experienced the bed shaking. I
    will likely write about it. You did the right thing. And it's when we are
    sleeping and in the in between place of sleep and awake, that seems to be a
    place of meddling. Anyhoo, Thank you for your courage to share. I believe
    every word. I love you and am praying for all of us. Deb, pray with
    scripture and pray before you go to bed. Pray for angels to surround your
    home, your bed. To stand at every window and door with swords drawn in the

    Lynnette, thanks for keeping an eye on the conversation. We need to be aware of demons, but not become fascinated with them to the point of distraction. Our focus is on the Lord.
    My current thinking is that there are demons. Satan probably does some sort of cost benefit study when picking how to mess with us. He might just plant doubt in one person’s head. He might let another person become too successful or powerful in THIS world as a way to distract him. For some, he might send a physical phenomenon because that is what he thinks will work against that person and he has had a lot of practice interacting with humans.
    The A, B, C items you listed are possibilities as far as they go. As you mentioned, we have free choice in a fallen world. We could add that God’s timing is different from ours. What may feel like not having victory actually may be not having victory YET. And, like the time God hardened pharaoh’s hart, God’s plans are different than ours.
    I sometimes refer to alcohol as a demon and pray that my loved one be protected from it. Whether or not I got the terminology right, God understands.

    Happy New Year! Love, love, love the title of this message and can’t wait for more! Will definitely get my hands on the book you recommend. I started reading “Let Our Children Go”…Steps to free your child from evil influences and demonic harrasment…really great stuff, need to finish it someday.     You’re not alone Deb! I grasp the real battle we face also. I have felt like something was walking around my home but couldn’t see it. Just like you both said, it’s at night. The “presence” hasn’t been in my here for a while. My faith has jumped so many levels up I feel the stronger we become the weaker the enemy is because Christ in us is greater than demons can battle. Always be on guard! <><

    It saddens me how few believe in the realness of spiritual warfare. The spiritual realm was in existence before this physical world became. And it STILL exists. To think differently does not align with what the scriptures teach.
    I too have had my share of experiences and I can assure anyone skeptical of the power of Jesus, his name will cause evil to be terrified and flee. It’s no light topic. Praying over you, covering you in promises and prayer, Lynn and Dineen as you bring truth forth to this community.

No way does the devil desires you to reach the people here and give them ammunition to fight against him….I pray a legion of Gods warrioring angels will be sent down to you and surround you with their protection during this series…..     Lynn, I am interested in this too. Tho I haven’t done alot of studay about spiritual woarfare, I definately believe it exists. Part of my belief is from reading Frank Paretti’s fictional triolgy about spiritual warfare, but that was pretty much on target. I want to know how to better rebuke Satan when he rears his ugliness rather than the obvious bidding him farewell in the name of Jesus. Gonna be interesting!! Love you gals!!

    It all started with free will and a conversation about an apple. God is calling ALL His children. Not everyone can hear Him. That’s why the ones who have heard have to pray unceasingly! You’re right about believing/acknowledging that there is a spiritual warfare that exists Lynette and we need to deal with it when it is apparent but not be fascinated with them, as Teresa T said. That’s why God gave us the armour to put on. <><

    I think Kathy has a good lead here to pray! Especially now with this study beginning! I’ve been coasting along sweetly lately but recognize that this is going to mean battle!
    Suit up!
    So I pray we are strong in the Lord and in His mighty power.
    Put on the full armor of God
    The belt of truth around your waist.
    The breastplate of righteousness in place.
    Your feet fitted readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.
    The shield of faith to extinguish flaming arrows of the evil one.
    The helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is
    the word of God.
    Pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. Be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people! AMEN! <><

    Lynn – wow, what an introduction. Thank you.
    Since you mentioned this topic a few weeks ago, I’ve been eagerly awaiting it’s commencement. And thanks Joanne for the commendation once again, I do appreciate it. Funny that a few weeks ago when Dineen & I were comparing notes on various things we happened to mention we had “Spirit Wars” in our reading piles. I’m now working through it, too.
    Looking forward to this discussion together. And let’s keep praying for each other. As evidenced by some of the examples above, prayer engages heaven.

    I have been studying on this (spiritual warfare) for the last 3 yrs in my home group. Yes im married to an unbeliever who is also an alcoholic so i feel like im in a battle everytime i come home. yes im in and so look forward to the study.

    2 Kings 6:15-18
    When the servant of the man of God got up early and went out, he discovered an army with horses and chariots surrounding the city. So he asked Elisha, “Oh, my master, what are we to do?”
    Elisha said, “Don’t be afraid, for those who are with us outnumber those who are with them.”
    Then Elisha prayed, ” Lord, please open his eyes and let him see.” So the Lord opened the servant’s eyes. He looked and saw that the mountain was covered with horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.
    When the Arameans came against him, Elisha prayed to the Lord, “Please strike this nation with blindness.” So He struck them with blindness, according to Elisha’s word.

    Good morning – …… like it or not, we ARE in a spiritual warfare, especially when you become a follower of Christ and your spouse is not.
    I am in a sad season now. Jack has finally decided, after a couple of years of observing…..he doesnt need to change anything in his life, heart or mind with Christ, he goes to church and prays to Jesus so everything is ok with his spiritual life and yes, I almost forgot: he is allowed to basically do anything he wants to, God is ok with it because he is such a fine person.
    my soul and mind KNOW that God hates division and divorce.
    my heart loves our children and our children hate division-divorce.
    I got married to share my life with my partner – and I cant share my life anymore with my partner because he doesnt share my beliefs –
    So my spiritual warfare is now:
    saying yes to our marriage when I truly perfer being alone than lonely.
    I shall never understand how you women out there are excited and interested in your spouses when they say no to Jesus – everything I experience and decide is based on my faith – even now, I KNOW I am not allowed to leave him, that is why I am staying. I am so tired of testifying – and I truly believe like the prodigal son, Jack too will someday believe and repent and accept Christ – only – I fear we will be very very old and our children long gone – and so so so many years he wasted in the world. It is for me no surprise anymore, why so many people have to suffer before they accept Christ, they are like the pharao, hard and closed to the voice of God.And what a price he had to pay…sometimes, but only sometimes, it scares me what God will have to do until our spouses say yes.
    I really dont want any feedback about my post, thank you. I just need to “vent” here because I know you all understand me, even if there are some that dont agree with me.
    I am so thankful for such blogs as SUM – and as long as my spouse isnt saved, it is necessary to have these blogs – thank you Lord for Lynn and Dineen and everyone else here.

    hello lynette – I do believe four things when I dont have victory – for example: if a person who I have prayed for and have walked with for a season rejects Christ:
    like you wrote above
    a – I didnt have enough faith: endurance
    b – I wasnt earnest enough in prayer: binding satan
    c – I myself have sin and need to repent before God steps in
    d – like you wrote – and this has become my most important point: our free will – God allows each and every one of us to choose him or satan
    I do believe Gods sovergn will is that ALL mankind be saved so of course he calls everyone, …..so why are so many not-yet-saved? is God weak or not calling? both would make the bible a lie so…it boils down to:
    our free will – and sometimes…that is blocked because we have pushed God away for so long –
    so that is when points A – C are also active –
    I am learning here, like all of you too – so lets keep swimming!

    I had such an exhilarating week with our fast and learned that you don’t have to get anxious or intimated that you are about to “starve.’ It truly is all about the things you know that have control on you and when you fast from that alone God will speak louder than ever. I was busting with news at the end of my ‘fast’ week when my husband returned from work in the city. I couldn’t even share with him what happened or how I felt and that isolates him in our marriage. I’m on a whole different level yet again and David is getting left behind. I feel a barrier building up as I grow and he has no clue as to what I am experiencing. He doesn’t attend church with me so he is completely in the dark. Quote: I’m good and that’s all that matters.” Journal. People have said to journal your faith walk. I’m considering instead of “Dear Diary” to start a “Dear David” journal and email him through his week away on what is happening in my life so he will be a part of what I am living. I’m also scared to do that because I’m going to have to be very selective of my wording. He already thinks I’m losing it when I talk about the devil. I don’t know why I am sharing this right now but after reading Tamara’s post I felt strongly convicted to describe my marriage in a little more detail. Maybe to encourage others so we can pray more specifically with names? <><

    Tami, That is a difficult thing to ask. Loving when it's not returned or
    appreciated or when someone treats you less than the Royalty we are is only
    possible through a vibrant and sustaining relationship with Jesus. Sometimes
    it's a moment-by-moment decision to love and very intentional. But we also
    must have reasonable boundaries in our marriages. Those are often crossed in
    the name of love or even in some way of submission. I would pray about this
    and ask God about your marriage and if your husband's mean treatment is
    something you need to face. If so, I would read the books tough love and
    Boundaries in Marriage. You can find links in the sidebar of the website.

    I am so excited to fight along side with you (through prayer) and to claim the authority given to us by our Lord and Savior. I’ve experienced warfare, I’ve done deep healing through our church and have read similar books. God is good and the victory is ours.

    Recognition of strongholds in the forms of addiction would be a huge step for my husband David. If they could be realized, an attempt could then be made to break these chains.     I will pray for David and for you as well. We sang these words at church Sunday from Hillsong “You are here” and they’re a great reminder of how great and awesome our God is and how capable he is of taking the impossible and changing it to possible!

    It’s amazing when we start believing that the same power that conquered the grave lives in you and me. If He conquered the grave, he will be faithful with David too.

    I just read your excerpt about the evil spirit in your bedroom. I would like to pray for/over my husband, but I don’t think I know the Scriptures as well as you seem to. Not sure if I should pray the prayer you did or come up with my own. I am tired of the struggles and scared and angry now that my 12-year-old daughter is showing hard-hearted tendencies like her father. Thank you for this ministry. I need it.

    I didn’t get to comment yesterday because I had a pretty rough and busy weekend and didn’t come to work Monday, so it has been crazy! Anyway,
    very excited to learn more on this topic. My only question is how can people not believe in spiritual warfare? It states in the Bible that we are not in a fight with flesh and blood, but in the spirit realm. Just saying.

    I’m praying for you. I shared with Lynn that during my quiet time the Lord revealed to me a specific word. I was reading Ephesians 6 and we’ve all read this passage (11) “Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.” The word was schemes. From there I have been on a journey in my quiet time. I’m amazed at how we read passages and the impact of a little word can change everything. Cause that’s all the devil has, schemes (an impractical project)!
    I am praying that you stand firm, that you receive the peace and rest from Christ that you need. Praying that God would send his Heavenly Army of Angels to war on your behalf in the authority of Jesus Christ. I love ya girl!

    Hi Valerie,
    I'm so sorry I'm way behind in getting to my email. One of the most powerful
    scriptures I have in my arsenal is 2 Timothy 1:7 For God did not give us a
    spirit of (FEAR) timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of
    self-discipline.
    I would sit up at night and start saying this scripture out loud and with
    conviction, over and over until you feel peace. Look up scriptures through
    Biblegateway.com on fear and memorize them as well. Psalm 91 is another
    powerful passage that just empowers me. I read it often and cling to its
