Miracles and Why God Doesn’t Heal

God has
been beating me about on the head trying to share with me this “thing” I keep
talking about. I’m trying to describe to you, our community, and to others I
talk with in person this movement by God. It’s a movement in the spiritual
realm that is bringing God’s Kingdom to earth. People are experiencing God in
profound and different ways than in years past. Experiences such as the
encounter I described on Monday. This thing, this movement God told me is

I’ve
seen this word written in giant letters on a wall. I’ve had it arrive over and
over through email and finally on Monday I “Got it.” Sheesh, it takes me
awhile. But, I’m now fully convinced that we are witnessing a giant awakening
of God’s people. Did you know that in China over 23,000 people come to Christ
every weekend? The Asian population is hungry for God. There are people
dreaming dreams of Jesus in the Muslim countries. In America, we the people of
God, are being filled with the Holy Spirit power and love. We are stepping
fully into the truth of the Bible. Jesus said, anyone who believes in me will
do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be
with the Father. (John 14:12).

This is
not just a good thought or great theology. God REALLY wants expects His
people to do greater things. Our command is exactly what I shared on Friday. Matthew
10:8 Heal the sick, raise the dead, cure those with leprosy, and cast out
demons. Give as freely as you have received!

This is
not a command specific to clergy, pastors or great Bible teachers. It is for
EVERYONE. You… Me… All of God’s people.

I
believe this so fully and have been pleading with God for more of His Presence
to serve His purposes that is why He showed up in that room weeks ago when a
group of ordinary women prayed for healing. This story, His power and love
alive and in action in our lives brings great honor to our God. And it’s is His
will to bring healing. I absolutely believe that.

So why then are some not healed?

Do you
remember that God reminded me the day following this crazy encounter that is
was the “woman’s” faith and trust combined with God’s love and power that
healed her? She believed God could heal her. She then trusted that God would heal
her.

Our
faith is very much part of the equation. Not always but most of the time. God
wants us to be part of His work.

Through
my extensive study and research about healing over the past six months I have
discovered a few things about God’s miracles. First, you can’t put God in a
box. He moves with full knowledge and power in a person’s life. Two, God will
choose to heal some and not heal others. We won’t always understand why. But
let me share with you a perspective that might bring you peace about God’s
healing intentions.

This is
an excerpt from an email I received on Monday and it best describes what I’m
trying to say. It’s from Lynette, one of our SUMers:

Dear Lynn,

Good morning! Hope you are well.
Great blog post today! I also believe God wants us healed, but something came
to me as I was reading. While I believe in healing, I also know sometimes God
doesn't heal. I asked many times for my mom to be healed when she was dying,
but God didn't heal her. I asked God about it and He told me she had a hard
life, and she was tired, it was time for her to be free of the chains of this
life. (She was saved right before she died) So I do think sometimes God has His
own reasons for not doing it, and it takes faith to trust in that too.

Another story I heard in my first
church was a man had cancer and the whole church prayed, the pastor strongly
believed in healing, and she was unsure of why he didn't get healed. She said
God told her that if he healed him, the man would have walked away from God and
went back to his life of drugs. So God in His wisdom and knowledge of events
that were to come took him home.  So in a
way they were 'healed.' I'm not trying to contradict anything you said in the
blog, just wanted to share how I have seen God work at times.

Well said Lynette. Sometimes God
heals and sometimes He doesn’t. We won’t always understand.

We are
called to take a step of faith and at least try. Will we fail sometimes? Yes.
So, we pray to understand what happened. We also must recognize we are all on a
journey and it takes experience and wisdom to begin to move in a new realm of
God. We are ALL, each one of us, in process and it takes time to arrive. But,
we are to pull up our courage and take risks.

It was
a risk for me to lay on hands and pray for physical healing. The experience was
so strange that if I shared it with my husband, he would think I’m crazy.* I am
willing to lose my dignity and look a fool in the eyes of others and
specifically other’s whose opinion of me matters. But God’s opinion of me
matters so more than any human that I am willing to lay down everything, my
pride, my position, my reputation to be part of His Work on planet earth.

Okay,
once again this post as gone looooooong. Sheesh. A girl can talk… I want to
share more about how Jesus models a step of faith on Monday. See you then.

    No matter what happens, if we/others receive healing or not, it ALL comes down to faith and trust. I have been healed of my alcoholism. I still attend a 12 step group as i am working to overcome some other issues the group helps with, but the desire for alcohol has all but disappeared. It’s a long story, but God used that alcoholism to call me to Him, then set me free from it. It’s a long story, maybe one day I will share it on the group page.

    Awesome! I Love my God sooo much! My heart yearns for Him! Thank you Lynn once again for sharing with us and following our Lord with all your heart. My healing has been internal.
    I am passionate about my God. I find myself very much in Love with Him. I have not felt this way since I gave my life to The Lord in 1995. I am not saying I have a perfect life without trials, but I am learning to surrender and trust. I give Him my troubles, I give Him my hurts. And I let go!
    It’s a constant surrender, because the enemy wants to destroy me. But I stand firm on my Rock.
    I know that as I type this, there will be “things” that will try to stumble me, some may even trip me. But I am holding on firmly to his word and leaning on Him for He is faithful and only wants to Love me.
    This is my healing.

    Just to see your words here fills the atmosphere with God’s love and power around you. He is doing so much in you and so very quickly. Just astounding… So much is waiting. Let Your Holy Spirit wind blow God all over Carmen and her house. Amen.

    This is an area that I have been thinking about for quite some time. I believe God can do anything – I believe he can snap his fingers and fix whatever needs to be fixed. I guess where I struggle is how to pray with belief and trust knowing that what I’m praying for, may not be in God’s will? (I have wrote and deleted here several times trying to put into words my thoughts….)
    Is is better to pray something like, “Lord, I pray for healing for so and so, I know that you can heal, but if not your will be done?”
    There are things that I pray about, that I know God can fix, answer, etc, but what if those things are just not in his will?
    I hope this makes sense….I’m open to any comments that you all have!

    I think about this topic a lot. I believe God can do anything, snap his fingers and make things happen – if he chooses to. I guess where I struggle is praying with faith and trust, when I know that what I might be praying for, is not neccessarily God’s will, or what he wants to do. So, should my prayers be more like, “Lord, I pray for healing for so and so, but if that is not your will than so be it.”…?? I get mixed up with boldly praying for things, but then knowing that what I’m praying for might not be God’s will…? I’m having a hard time putting this into words…hopefully it’s making sense.

    Hello, friend. It is nice to see your thoughts on this subject featured. You are in my prayers often. Thanks for sharing your testimony. I look forward to you updating us in the future that the desire for smoking is also gone since you have been praying about that too.

    Let’s thank God for his wisdom and practicality in how he answers our prayers — “yes,” “no”, “wait” and “I have something better planned.” I have a mental picture that if all the good and faithful people who ever prayed to not die were still alive today, we’d have a serious overcrowding problem. Can you imagine?
    Our job is to come to the throne with confidence. We know he wants to give us good things. Then we accept the answer we receive.
    Spiritual healing is so much more important than physical healing. Physical healing can be used as a testimony that draws attention to the Word. Healing can be a reward, etc.
    At the same time, infirmaties can lead to spiritual growth and spreading the word. We’ve probably all known spirit-filled people who showed supernatural grace during an illness.
    The apostle Paul had a “thorn of the flesh.” Clearly he was in close communion with God. When you think of the power the apostles had and the things they witnessed, perhaps Paul needed a physical limitation as sort of a “balance.” There was some purpose for it.
    The answers are too complex for my mind. That’s why we have to have faith and trust. This verse comes to mind. 2 Corinthians 12:8-10
    But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.

    Sabrina, I don’t believe it’s God’s will for anyone to be oppressed or sick. I think sometimes we get His will and what He allows mixed up. I don’t think they are the same thing. That would actually be a good discussion to have!

    Thank you for sharing Lynn, yes, I agree that God is in the business of healing and restoration and that is his desire for all of us . I also agree that we do need to step out on faith I order to see the manifestion of the healing ( or anything eles we have been praying for ) sometimes I think how many people stop short of receiving their miracle because they lost faith. ( in no way am I saying that God is with holding anything form us or we need to be works of the flesh I order to recieve) God is has finale say and can choose to heal one person one way and another a different way. However I believe we have a part to do and God does the rest. Just like in the passage we read in Joshua, when God told then to first step into the river then God parted the seas, and there are many more like this. It is a combination of our faith and obeidenance. I have also have lost loved ones who did not receive a healing on this side of heaven. They are healed NOW!!!! Do I understand it no, but I trust God becaus he is good and he works all things for Good. Thank you for sharing what Lynette wrote, I completely agree! I have also heard of similar stories like that.

    Satan tries to use death by saying God is not good, why did he not heal, and allow so much pain? He tries to use our emotions and just the here and now to question God. First he is a lier! A deceiver and there is no good in him! We trust God’s love because that is what He operates out of and we trust His wisdom, He know way more then we do. But I do believe that God wants to heal most of us on this side of Heaven. Love the bible verse John 10:10 ” The thief comes only in order to steal kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows).” Thank you Jesus!!!! You all have a blessed weekend and Mother’s Day! Take care xox 🙂 hugs

    I too went through something similar, I had a gambling problem that I too believe, ok KNOW God used to bring me back to him. I tried to stop many times on my own but it became EXTREMELY obvious that it wasn’t going to happen without God and those little “God save me!” prayers weren’t going to do it, he wanted me up close, personal, and real. He wanted me back! I am soooo thankful and I am here to stay God, and happier and more peaceful than I have been in a lonnnnnnnng time. I got lots of grooming yet to do as far as becoming the real warrior God wants, but I’m not so full of shame anymore and for me that was half the battle “SHAME” it kept me away from the altar for so long. Now that I AM ashamed for.
    Yes Lynn I am curious as to what your hubby said too, mine would have deemed me crazy LOL……and maybe I am a wee bit 🙂

    I don’t know if someone needs to hear this today but I just feel to say that our healing or not being healed is not a result of our righteousness. There are no step by step instructions to follow to receive a healing, but we ask in faith according to God’s mercy. And trust in his sovereign wisdom to give us what will be for our best and His glory.
    Daniel 9:18
    “Give ear, our God, and hear; open your eyes and see the desolation of the city that bears your Name. We do not make requests of you because we are righteous, but because of your great mercy.”

    I’ve heard about God’s preferential will differing from His permissible will….: Here’s a link that explains a bit mroe about it: bible.org/seriespage/god’s-perfect-plan
    On the other hand if He knew that for Mr so and so, being oppressed/sick was the only thing that would bring them to Him, then I would guess it would be His will, more than just something He is allowing. All the sickness and brokenness in our world is a result of original sin, and God allows it and works good out of it the best possible good for every person – – all while honoring our free will to choose (God allows the brokenness in the world as a way of honoring mankind’s free will).

    II have never been more glad to stumble on a website and the . Peter3 group. God led me here I know it fully deep down in my soul. This spiritual awakening is something I have long known was coming. You can see and hear the rumblings in Gods people. He is awaking His people. I have told lots of people about my two experiences with people who were demon possessed most look at me like well isnt that nice she thinks she saw a demon. But I know God gave me the gift of Spiritual discernment and it is for a purpose. I believe it is because I live in a time where the spiritual realm is no longer so hidden. My name means Lioness of God and I was challenged by a stranger to live like that Lion. I am going through alot of spiritual attacks and am so tired but am relieved and renewes to know that there others who know the truth of the spiritual world.i

    Love it, Lynn, thank you! I believe that all are healed in one way or another when we ask. Whether it’s physical or spiritual. Sometimes we will never understand God’s ways, and I’m thankful that I don’t. My 19 yr old son sustained a shoulder injruy to his shoulder his senior year of high school during football. We were in the process of getting him recruited to play baseball in college. He knew he hurt himself, but didn’t realize just how bad it was until baseball season came and he picked up a ball and threw it for the first time in months. We went to see a sports injury doctor, who did an MRI and told him he had a tear and needed surgery. We were devastated because the minimal healing time would be at least one year. We waited. We had him prayed over for healing one Sunday after church. One of our deacons joined us late, and didn’t know what we were praying for. After prayer, he asked my son what was wrong. He told us that he had a sensation in the same shoulder my son injured while we were praying! And, another leader told him he needed to understand his healing was conditional, what was he going to do with Jesus? To make a longer story short, we got a 2nd opinion 6 months later, had some physical therapy, stretched and exercised. He got recruited, went off to college. Still tight and painful every now and then. When he came home at Christmas we followed up with 2nd doctor, did another MRI which revealed NO TEARS…NOTHING! HALLELUJAH! My son’s just finishing up his sophomore year and had an amazing baseball season. His school came placed 2nd in leage and qualified for the Nationals. Unfortunately they just lost their 2nd game this morning which brings their season to a close. But he’s good, and he’s good with it! So we praise God and jump for joy for the great things He has done! I love your “undignified” line. Just like David, we should be unashamed when coming before the Lord. It is a learning (trusting) process. May He who began a good work in us, complete it until that day! Have a great weekend everyone. Love you!

    Hi Lynne, I totally agree with everything you wrote here. I believe it is our job to do what God asks us to do in HIS word says, by faith, and then let HIS supernatural power do the rest. I also believe many christians don’t receive their healing since they accept their illness as part of “God’s will”. It is clear in the word of God that by Jesus’ strips we were healed (past tense)…which means it’s already accomplished… that means we need to go after healing and receive it completely by faith. Having said this, the way one prays is very important. If what Jesus did 2000 years ago, not only paid for our sins, but also healed our diseases, then this changes the way we should pray. We need to command the sickness to leave the body in Jesus’ name and then thank God for the healing power that is working in the body… not “BUTs”!!! Do I believe a person can be healed by the faith of another believer…absolutely since I have experienced it personally many times in the last year after God gave me this revelation about divine healing.     Hi everyone hope all you mothers out there have a happy mother’s day .
    Please could everyone pray for my husband he is also a pre-believer
    for awhile his back has been hurting he went to the docter they took ex-rays and the dr said it was degenitive disc disease (discs between the vertabras are beginning to deterioate.One morning I felt like God told me to ask him if he believed God could and would heal him and his reply was Nothing can heal this .In my finite(compared to God)mind I was thinking when my husband gets healed he will come to know and ask Jesus into his heart?!

    I can relate to what you are saying. I have been brought up in a church where healing is not really believed in…well if God wills of course but no real prayers of faith. But I also have friends who have experienced healing and who have healing ministries and I see how God does answer our prayers of faith. So I have confusion as to how we should pray for healing. I really want to know what the truth is!

    Father I pray for Tina’s husband’s back…I lift him up to you, knowing that you are a God that heals, a God that loves and cares. Only you know the reasons that we walk through hurts and pains at times in our lives, and only you are able to Completely open the eyes & melt the hearts of our pre-believers. As you Heal Tina’s husband, I pray that he knows, without doubt, that it was you that Healed him. In Jesus Great and Powerful name. Amen.
    Last night I was awoken in the middle of the night with an urging to lay hands & pray over my husband. He doesn’t sleep well, but he was sound asleep as I did so. God is so amazing & while I do not know what he’s up to, I do know that this Awakening is being felt throughout my circle of believers & I do believe it is being felt in our Pre-Believers as well, the number of things that have happened this last couple of weeks, the reminders that my husband doesn’t believe “yet”, the ways God is speaking to us all, working in us all, loving through us all. Exciting!!!
    THere is a LONGING in this world to fill that God shaped Hole & I can’t help but smile & be filled with Joy to share the LOVE & Hope that Jesus brings when one accept his Gift of Salvation!
    Praying for this community, Praying for Joanne, Praying for this World. Absolutely AMAZING that so many in China are coming to know Christ! <3 Have a wonderful weekend my friends!!

    Thank you so very much yes God is awesome!!I knew this next bit of info but needed to be reminded the pastor was saying how prayer changes the atmosphere and it does perhaps the same kind that if you are afraid of a strange dog that dog will sense it and is more likely to bit .

    Hi! Thanks so much for another great post!! You are so right, God can choose not to heal sometimes and tho it hurts us greatly, HE does have HIS reasons and that’s where trust comes in! Continuing to trust tho we may not know why HE didn’t choose to heal.
    To know God still is God and I am not….and keep loving him as we go through this life filled with so many ups and downs. Someday all our whys will be answered. I used to think that I would ask God, Why he let my brother die as soon as I saw HIM. But now I know that when I come face to face with my loving Saviour, that will be the last thing on my mind. I will be in awe of HIM and won’t be able to contain the joy in my heart at feeling HIS embrace and thanking HIM for how he carried me through all the times he didn’t bring the healing I wanted in different situations. Thanking HIM for loving me!

    Sabrina,
    I know how you feel and how it’s difficult at times to discern what or how to pray. I think learning to discern how to pray is a long process. It comes out of reading God’s word for a long time and praying for wisdom and discernment. I will tell you that I believe God wants healing for most people so pray expecting healing. And simple believe in His power and provision for it. If you aren’t convinced that praying for healing in your bones for someone, then ask God about it. I had been begging God for months for this very day. So when it happened, I knew it was absolutely of Him. Love you girl. Hugs, Lynn

    Hi Pat,
    brilliant….sometimes I think how many people stop short of receiving their miracle because they lost faith.
    You are correct in saying this. Part of the healing is faith, trust and exercising our free will. There isn’t any strict formula. God won’t be put in a box but He has allowed us to see His heart for people and it is always good. We must come into alignment with His heart. Neat. Neat. Love you Pat.
